I have just become the new owner of what I believe to be a Viscount Ambassador and am looking for any information regarding this future asset. The chassis has 0762(D762?) welded to the side, the logo has worn off over time, and I have been unable to find any other branding or writing in or out.
Having a look underneath, the chassis looks rusted, and the wheels/axles etc need replacing/repair. I plan to block up the van and remove the chassis to clean and repair. Has anyone got experience doing this themselves? Any tips?
Orrr, have I bitten off more than is worth chewing, and should I sell the shell as is?

D762 could be 64- 65 model or thereabouts. I believe the D series all had timber frames and ran from around 64 (or maybe 63?) to around 68. Mostly diamond pattern aluminium cladding attached with stainless steel screws but may have also had stucco pattern cladding in the late 60's? I restore a 66 E model some years back and had the chassis sandblasted back to bare metal, primed, and then topcoated in charcoal hammertone for around $450. You may find this thread from the vintage caravan forum interesting.... vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/15994/observatorys-restoration-ambassador-viscount-d919Good luck with your project! Hi, From your description here you have a major resto on your hands, a caravan 50 plus years, possibly without much work in the past, has to be made safe. Have a browse through "Hall of Fame". Most restos here are all DIY, allow time, allow a sensible budget, you can gain a lot of knowledge here if you are willing to share your project. Cheers
