Thanks Rattles,
It definitely an over run system, it has that little latch to flick over when reversing the van. I appreciate your insight and have already learned so much from this forum!

Good info here, and thanks for putting in your experience with 'leccie' brakes. I agree with you John that in certain situations (probably all) the electrics have it over the override and when the $$ become available its a good investment. I suppose in my case I drive a 4wd, over two tonne weight so there no pushing from the Viscount so I dont really notice it.

If there is no "push" from the van the over ride brakes can not work 4x8" over ride brakes have less than 30% of the swept area of 4x10" then there is the 'leccie' activation on top , The van can and will but hopefully for your sake won't , turn the disco inside out when the sh## hits the fan I have seen a 8x5 box trailer spin a land cruiser around on a wet road when it only had on off over ride and not 'leccie' brakes . Next time you are on a dirt road with some up hill incline think how it would end up if the tug lost traction or power or stalled none of these would matter with electric brakes but with over ride ? even the mighty gravity defying LR's are not infallible

If it were my van I would upgrade to new electrics EVERYTIME.

looking at that if you remove the cylinder all you have left will be standard over ride brakes then adjust as rattles has explained you shouldn't have a problem just check brake pads and do bearings best though to leave this as one of the last things before rego between now and then a lot can change you don't want to spend time and money on the same thing twice.

So finally the big yellow thing up in the sky showed up yesterday, so we could do some work on getting the van leakproof and painted. She still needs a couple of coats of the blue but it's coming up nicely. We are going with a 'reverse' paint theme. The Navy colour top and bottom with a white stripe in between. I hopefully will be getting the missing window back this week and will fit it ( using what I learned from tasmillard's helpful video ) this weekend weather permitting! I also removed the vacuum activator to check the hand brake worked and it does, so no more bricks to stop her rolling away! It needs a bit of lubricating, but other than that, its sweet. I will definitely do the bearings before rego, I want to make sure they are good to go and not all dried out.

If get new bearings make sure that are genuine and not a Chinese copy. There are few out there of very poor quality.

I will keep an eye out for the Nulon grease too, thanks!

How many degrees cooler do you find they run Mustang please ? I use a laser thermometer when checking hubs and have not found any variance between types of grease over many years but have not used Nulon because I am a bit anti additive

Fair 'nuff I will stick with my laser thermometer it seems slightly more accurate I first got it for tyre checking as temps were a better gauge than psi Digial laser thermo

Finally got some spare time to get a few more things done on the van. We started pulling the kitchen out and ended up taking more out than originally planned! More prepping the exterior for painting over the long weekend coming up. We aren't keeping the fridge or rangehood, I don't know if the fridge works at all, I plugged it into 240v and nothing happened. We don't have gas hooked up yet so couldn't check that. If anyone wants them, or knows someone who would please let me know.

Re your fridge, if the motor will not run on power, most likely it will not run on gas. These fridge parts are hard to get so you may be able to advertise it for parts.

So, it's been quite a while since I have posted anything here. Flat out working full time plus a small business on the weekends! We have finally got to the stage where we need professional help. She has been delivered to a local caravan repair place to get plumbing and electrical, plus a couple of other little bits we have ran out of time to do ourselves. The ceiling panelling is done as is most of the side panelling and kitchen bench. My wife used the stick on 'tic-tac' tiles for our splash back which I reckon came up a treat! We just need to do the trims around the joins of the ceiling plus put some edging around the bench seat and pantry, then get painting! I built a bench seat / storage unit over the wheel arch also. Exterior is pretty much complete bar the cleaning up of the windows and some touch ups here and there. Hopefully get her back in a couple of weeks to get a blue slip ready for rego before xmas.
