I have been considering a tour for want of a better word with vintage van in tow behind the old Z car and visiting several car/vehicle museums along the way down through central eastern NSW to Newcastle then home maybe 10 -14 days average travel 150-200km a day when travelling and 1800-2000km in total from Brisbane return but participants could join and leave at any point . It is just a thought at the moment and there is much planning to be done re meeting up with heritage societies ,vintage car clubs and caravan parks that are suitable etc etc . Anyone interested or any suggestions please I would envisage a small group no more than 10-12 to keep things containable

Tours were popular but there have not been any for a couple of years ago. WA are active with their tours. I would suggest you post a suggested itinerary of museums & POI with dates in mind. Also consider alternate accommodation like showgrounds that might be suitable, & keeping the doggie people in mind.

No one has been successful getting a tour off the ground or a get together with the Classics...ever.
So go for it John. Wish you luck with it.
I did neglect to say that the Vintage forum have a very active group that do regular tours and get togethers. Participants come from far and wide, a lot are not on the forum

We had a rollup of three vans Vincent was going to attend as a shell but I couldn't make it due to my Dads passing, but it did happen.

Roll up of three vans, well in that case I can say that we tour all the time with Gitano's Franklin, my good friends Franklin and my van. In fact the three classics are headed up to Scammander over Easter so we effectively have an 'active tourers' group here And, another family friend of ours has an old Chesney 16 ft too, so could be four as per the first 40 seconds of my vid: Retired John: You lucky bugger, I wish I had the time to travel at all, so go for it I say too

Hey tasmillard, certainly appreciate the pictures of tours you and your friends have done. I am referring to get togethers advertised on here.

Maybe then tasmillard you should give some thought to posting on here prior to one of these trips or weekends and invite other classic van fans to join you and have a "classic van " outing nothing to lose and some more friends to gain also a boost for the genre in Tassy I am sure there are quite a few in the island who would love to talk old fan for a couple of days

Thanks for the suggestion John. I lot of the trips we do are family and close friends, i guess you may say that i am a little on the introvert side. I would like to do a 'meet and greet' but im more the type to turn up rather than organise one. However, if any Tassie members read this I can say that I am more than happy to be contacted for a chat

Also "Mel" in Hobart, not sure if Mel has a van going, but they are working on a tandem bondwood. You can send a PM as a guest on the VV forum.

Just wonder if it is pet friendly park.... From their site PETS
Pets are NOT allowed in cabins with the exception of service dogs.
Pets are allowed on campsites provided they are leashed at all times. Owners are required to clean up after their pets.

I think I got points 5, 6 and 7 covered. I think the best bet here would be to perhaps (forum suggestion?) have a section for group listings, so for every state members can post up saying they want to be involved in a group and can be contacted. If they change their minds later they remove their name from the group. This way a post can be put into that state section of an upcoming event. Just a thought.

Nope but watch this space the "Classic" get together calendar is in for some suggestions and opportunities Just look what has happened here in 1 day with some nudging imagine what we can do with some effort The beauty of "Classic" vans is they have the ability to do "tours" in relative comfort with classic cars or modern tug's . I believe there is much to be gained publicity and awareness wise by showing them to different communities

I believe there is much to be gained publicity and awareness wise by showing them to different communities I drove a few 1000klm for Cotton Tree, the upside was, unlike most cara parks nowdays, a few classics were around as site vans. My local has replaced all with Jayco sheds now as folks went into serviced care, tootled off to a fluffy cloud somewhere. The managers were happy as it just went that way over 5 years, not have to evict or mandate a cut off date for caravans, i seem to remember a fellow full time no cash person poster, living somwhere where old vans got the heave ho! (cvliving?) As an aside i do think events like that Catalina festival should be crashed with forum folks display so punters can discover what the classic/ vintage joy is about, rather than just hot rodding. The planes & cars had a mix of authentic and modified, so i see no value in shunning events until our own scene is more than vapourware. Did the VV sort your ip thing? You can sneak in via a trip to free wifi to check, as a guest, then try to login.

I am not wishing to create a problem with members on this site nor hold court on events that occur on our "sister site" but I will state: 'A forum that has 5000 members plus, in operation for over 12 years will only ban members if they break the forums rules'
This forum was established by creator of the 'Vintage Caravan Forum' for those that owned or were interested in caravans that were not old enough to be classed as Vintage. Please keep the topics confined to Classic Caravan related.
