Hi there, I am a cabinetmaker joiner with 28 yrs experience , I have just started making a 50's bond wood van from scratch. I'm here because the vintage guys don't believe there site is the one for me.Anyway I will start a build thread and share my build. I am hoping to build these as a way of income, as well as repairs and mods to any era vans, let me know what you guys think! Cheers 2bob

Well, that was a 'interesting' read. 2bob - im relatively new to this forum but would welcome you to post a thread on the build. I certainly would like to learn from others and given your experience I think this could only benefit the forum members and future members. Cheers,

Welcome 2bob you will find this a different place than the land of the slotted screws Phillips head and modern methods are given credence here even fitting electric brakes is not frowned upon

Yes, welcome along. I'm also happy for you to run your rebuild thread here like the others have said. I am quite taken aback by the attitude of some on the Vintage forum. That sort of closed mind attitude has spelt disaster for more than one forum over the years and clubs too. One or 2 members that control a place that tightly just turn people away. Reading the terms and conditions here, there doesn't seem to be anything written down stopping you from building a van from scratch. My interpretation of the site is that it brings together people with a like minded interest in older vans. To me, your idea fits in with the things we like here, so should be encouraged. This is just my personal opinion and not that of the forum though. Although I'm not a member on the Vintage site, I'm a regular visitor but that may change now as I'm pretty disgusted with that attitude to be honest. I hope it doesn't creep in here or I'll be gone like a rat out of an aqueduct... So start us off with some ideas and pics Bob.

Hi 2bob Welcome to our Classic Caravans forum. The forum fosters vans from 1970 to 1980, & we welcome all comers interested in Classics. Please start your own thread in the “Hall of Fame”, there you can post images from a third party such as Photobucket, Tinypic, Flickr etc. Flickr linkCheers Brent (Forum Mod)

let me know what you guys think! Cheers 2bob 2bob I'd be interested in following your build. Whether this is the right forum, I don't know (personally I think it is). I'm not a Forum Moderator, so that decision is for others. Either way if you do get bumped to another site, let us know where you land. It sounds as if some people are keen to follow your progress, me included. Don't let those other cabinet makers hear that you're sick of MDF, you'll be stripped of your tape measure and marched from town. Planner

The era is of little consequence for the fact that what 2bob is inspiring to build will be a benefit to us all.

I used to live in Bunyip and often visit family there. It's a nice patch of the world - not too far from Melb big smoke but retains rural atmosphere! I was a member of the vintage forum. Banned 3 times for "calling a spade A SPADE". They don't seem to like constructive critique in that show?...like that fact that Phillips heads are actually vintage and have been around since 1935! Someone once posted that the coffee is much better on this site - understatement much? Great work fellow members, and good luck with your build 2bob. Cheers, Arthur

I always thought a "Bunyip" was a wild animal
No talk of 'Philips Head Screws' thanks I hear enough of that from the "Vintage Car Purists"
Go for it 2bob We are the "Classic Forum" in the past we have had other "Classic Members" post about their "Moderns"
Yep Mark owns both Forums (he pays the bills)
