hi all i need to replace my 73chesney kampa table as the current/original one is bowed i figure i have a couple options 1 buy a sheet of suitable timber(suggestions welcome on timber type) and make a new one can use old one as a template/guide 2 take it out completely use a fold up table but then i wont have the option of using as a spare bed thoughts suggestions are very welcome as im extremely new to caravaning but have plenty of practice traveling with a basic camper trailer

G'day whereswaldo, Judging by your photo of the table, I'm guessing it has a total thickness of about 15mm or so, which is too thin to stop bowing. You can try gluing strips of timber to the underside of the table after you've upended it onto a flat surface and flattened the bow out with heavy weights. The strips of timber would need to be something like 30mm x 19mm size, with the 19mm face being glued to the underside, giving 30mm depth of timber to resist any future bowing. Three or four strips of timber equally spaced from front of table to back of table should give you the strength required to prevent bowing. The strips don't have to go completely from edge to edge, which means you can have space under the table edges to drop the table down into position for the bed. But the closer the strips are to the edge, the more resistant the top will be to future bowing. Hope all that "gobble-de-gook" makes a bit of sense. If not, come back and ask as many questions as you like. No such thing as a stupid question on this forum... cheers, Al.

As Al suggests the under supports work well. We used our old frame with new finger jointed pine on top, & ran two long strips the length of the table screwed. It has held its shape ever since. For nostalgia we screwed aluminium angle to the edges. Cheers brent
