Hey All
I recently just purchased what has listed on the papers as a 20ft Franklin Arrow. The Chassis number is: V7138.
I'm interested to know what the GVM on this would roughly be?
Any help appreciated
Cheers Cam

As a reference the vin numbers on the Arrows going like this: 1974: V0001 - V9999
1975: W0001 - W9999
1976: X0001 - X9999
So your van will be 1974

Fantastic and thanks for the info....I had a feeling it was older than the 1980 listed on the papers.
Now I've got to get the gas inspected and re-regoed locally

Any idea what this would weigh approx.? My 16 foot Arrow weight 900 kg so chances are than yours will be about 1200 or a tad more. The best will be to take it to the local weight bridge.

Ok I was working off 1500-1700 loaded.
The tugs a turbo diesel Paj so nothing to worry about there.
I'm based in the Sorell area....where would the best weigh bridge be, or are they listed somewhere?
I'll try to load some pics tonight

Ok Heres the van....hopefully there work I have added a mixer tap to the sink which has mains pressure and also added a tap to the draw bar. Sorted the 12v system with a 150amp battery onboard and charged through an Anderson plug. Will eventually use a solar panel here to when setup to free camp. The 240v all works and the fridge was great on it, haven't run it on gas yet. Would this fridge and cooker/oven pass an inspection? It's on vic reg and want to change it over so I guess the gas must be inspected by a professional prior to roadworthy. We had a maiden 2 night stay up at Orford and it was great, heading to Swansea on Monday for 3 nights. It has a full annex but haven't put it up yet....that might be an experience. A few things to sort and tidy but over all very happy. Cheers Cam

With my experience with the Millard, which was previously reg'd in Vic, all I needed was 240v cert and LPG cert. I downloaded the reg requirements off the Service Tas website to make sure the van was compliant. The 240v inspection included a new mcbrcb so was more expensive. For LPG I don't even have gas lines so this will also be expensive I think!

Looks very nice and comfortable. One of the weak points in the Franklin are the seams in the roof. When you have the chance reseal them.

Nice van - I registered my 16' Arrow at 1200Kg (it was originally around 900 I think as Gitano said. I would guess yours would be around what you said - 1500 or so fully loaded. Good thing in Vic is that the GVM's weren't listed originally so when yuo re register them they will just accept what you tell them - they don't even require a weigh bridge certificate any more. I've weighed it with full water tank, 2 x full 9Kg gas bottles, spare tyre mounted to the draw bar, and all our gear for a 2 week trip and we were at 1250Kg. I just chucked the spare, 1 gas bottle and a slab of beer in the tow vehicle and was sorted. I only run 1 gas bottle now and have since removed 30Kg of timber from the old home made bed frame, so well under now.

I have measured mine and it's sitting at 170kg, reckon that's to much? I run 2x9kg bottles also but ones only for the BBQ so was contemplating down sizing that to a 4.5kg and carrying it in the tug. Spare wheel is the next issue and where to mount it. My van still has the steel frames beds and was wondering if it would be lighter for me to frame some timber ones in? I haven't got the tank full, probably half but I'm unsure what the capacity of it is to be honest.

That old girl is in lovely condition inside. Most you see are destroyed from years of leaking and neglect!

I think if you drop 20kg to 150kg on ball its more around 10% total weight.

Hi more mac, That 10% ball weight is only a guide,as long as the tow car can legally take the weight it won't be a problem. All Franklins were good towers due to ball weight, drop axles and A frame extending back to spring mounts. Nice van! Cheers hughdeani

Move the spare and the annexe to the back under the bed and you will improve on the ball weight. Try to keep the ball weight not over 10% and not less than 7% Have a look the tug specs just in case that you need to use a weight distribution hitch. I run a WDH because it is what Mitsubishi ask for ball weight over 90 Kg on the Magna.
