10km down the road from us, the tyre was probably buggered anyway, they could have continued on 3 x wheels to a safe stop.
We only commented on Sunday returning from Evans Head how few emergency stops there are on the newer highways. Qld & NSW.
From a safety point of view the truck driver would have seen this vehicle pulled over a long way back, (its a very straight section) he should have moved to the right lane or slowed dramatically.

yes I agree with both points I have told the wife if you get a flat slow down drive until you can get right off the road a Tyre and at worst a rim can be replaced not so a person. Many people have been killed this way and I have seen many very close just misses with people changing tires or just pulled over on fog line to talk on phone or let kids out for a toilet break.
