Hi kids. Just registered and looking forward to all the fun and games you guys have on this site. Newbi... I have just brought at 1973 chesney for $1500 in Brookvale northernbeaches NsW. It is in great condition inside. Very original and power works thank god. Can be registered as I have taken camper to mechanic and he did all the test and gave me a blue slip. BUT like most of the older pop ups they need the canvas replaced and I’m in that boat. I think in my 42years of life I have never studied or researched that much on anything and gee I think I would have gotten an A+. So after that intro I’ll fill you in on my journey but in a quick way. I need the measurements on the canvas for the pop up. If I can than I’m pretty much set. Why? Well in Sydney the cheapest place was $2500 plus $500 to take original off. So after and seriously 5months of doing research I went from staining, cutting etc and came up stumps. Till today at my work. I install signage and we do canvas reality boards that are very large. Soooooo I am going to use that canvas from the ones that get sold. This is a plastic like canvas. Does not at all leak hence the $800.00 per canvas board to last all weather conditions. Genius right.. All I need is the canvas measured. Than I’ll supply the material and then just need someone to sew together I’ll just place over original canvas. But will have to take off and down each time but better than $3000.00 Any help advice would be great.

G'day ryder2012, and welcome to the forum!
If you get a commercial canvasmaker to make a replacement canvas surround, wouldn't they just measure your existing one and make a copy?? What stops you from doing the same thing to work out the size of the vinyl throw-over?
Any decent sewing maching with enough grunt will do the job. You just need a size 18 needle and some quality upholstery thread. As long as you've got plenty of time and space to lay all the bits and pieces of vinyl out on the ground, you'll get there eventually.
You can also get some quotes from canvasmakers who are further away from the Sydney region. A friend needed a canvas repair job done on the skirt of her campervan (Toyota bus). The quote from Parramatta was $500. The quote from Wollongong (100kms away) was $200.
There are heaps of videos on Youtube showing how to replace the canvas on campers. Search Youtube for 'replace camper canvas' or words like that.
cheers, Al.
