Hello everyone. Great forum. Glad I found it now I have bought an old chesney kamper. But after I got it home I realised the roof lifting mechanisms have been removed and I am having great trouble finding replacements. Any ideas. I could get some made up but I would love to see some puctures of how exactly they work. Thankyou so much for any help.

Hi mat T This is a hard way to get info, with no images & scant info. Try joining the forum as a member & post some images through Tinypic or photobucket etc., Members are glad to help if they can see some relevant info.

Mat, also just try a general google search - " Chesney kampa lift issues " .... then sift through the results and all should be revealed. You will come across pics and hints in some of the sites. I have had a Kampa GT before but didn't post any pics here unfortunately. There is a spring in each of the 4 corners which give the initial lift of around 20cm once you release the catches, then you can grab the exposed bed ends/platforms & pull them out....as these ends come outwards the internal frame automatically pushes up the roof. But note that there are locating/locking lugs on the underside of the bed platforms so you need to slightly lift the bed bases over the body wall hump as you pull outwards, and at their fully extended position there are also lugs on their underside which lock into place to prevent the bed platforms from tending to slide back closed. A little hard to explain on paper but hopefully if you see pics and then fiddle around with yours then you might work it out. A few years back we had a member " donnymarie " who had a Kampa GT with lifting issues, and posted pics on this forum - try finding her thread & photobucket album if it's still accessible here. Anyway good luck. Cheers - Steve.

If yours is the early model it will have a winch under draw bar out of the winch should be two cables one to the front bed and one to the rear bed when you undo catches top should raise a little then wind winch up both beds should slide out together if cables are not equal in tension the one of the two beds will get caught on roof don't force it stop on winding winch go to stuck end and wriggle roof until it comes up and bed comes out a little. the winch if it isn't there is a boat winch mounted under draw bar it needs a chain link welded in middle or something else done to let cable slide there should be two small wheels each end on chassis with a hole into camper on each end inside you will find another wheel at top the cable goes in behind then into a hole in the bed frame then it is clamped off with a cable clamp. the setting up of cables is best done with three people one winding the winch slowly one each end of a pipe keeping tension on cable as when all works properly this is a very easy operate with one person. have fun they are a great little Kamper and very roomy for what they are when set up
