Some time back while on my motorbike I stopped on a nice rise at Lake Wivenhoe to take a photo, reason being the lake was a mirror, so it was nice & quiet. Coming the opposite way was a sweet sounding V8, being wound out through the gears with crisp changes, the hilly course demanded changes down & up. Getting closer the vehicle is really starting to stretch out, longer intervals between changes, wow I must hang on here to see what it is? Then into view it came, an early Rangie being driven by a nice looking female with a toddler in the back . I,ll bet she was laughing at the look on my face!!!!!

I have 2 cars I built, an AC Cobra replica and a Cobra Concept replica which market as a SC 540. The SC 540 is usually the car we use during summer as it has a roof and airconditioned. Warren

Nice Ones warrenk, either would do me summer or winter, I fancy the red one. What are the engine specs??? Nothing fancy in the engine department. The AC has a 4 ltr Toyota V8, what it lacks in capacity it makes up in the way it revs. The SC 540 has a 5.4 ltr Falcon Boss engine. The car is basically a rebodied BF2 XR8 Falcon. Driving in summer with similar conditions as last weekend is a killer. Winter is good, you can always add another layer of clothes. Nothing better than driving on a cool clear day around places like Tamborine, Maleny, Mt Glorious etc. Warren

How nice is that AC replica!! How do you go with the registration with side pipes ? I'd have thought they would have been illegal out here as people can burn themselves on them .... ?

The side pipes are fake, just for show. I wouldn't want them even if they were legal, burn't leg and not to mention a noisy exhaust pipe less tha 900mm from your ear. The exhaust come out the rear of the Cobra. You can just see the exhaust tips below the reflectors. Warren

Here's a worthless one as it's been modified The '92 4 door you have shown is the bottom of the heap. Battered, modified ... it looks lifted .. are the guards cut ? The transfer cases are later viscous borg warners (rather than the near indestructible noisier gear driven transfer cases in the earlier cars). Those borg warner transfer cases lock into 4wd and trash your driveline due to axle windup... The slugomatics are all on there last legs at this age ( though it is a simple 4hp22 borg warner to rebuild).... Mines has a discovery serpentine belt v8 fitted... it's a factory manual (probably the only one sold as a manual in the early 90s... after all they were toorak tractors). It's been converted to the stronger discovery R380 5spd manual. I've put an earlier gear driven transfer case into it. ie: It's been updated for reliabilities sake. not that it's unreliable. It would have just been worn. It's probably done 1/2million kms from new. it's one of the most reliable vehicles I've ever owned. seeya, Shane l. I rest my case

I rest my case Your looking at this from the wrong perspective.... That's like me looking at your Zephyr and saying "it's worth $1500 bucks ... no one would ever pay more than that for one of them". 'Cos your average rough Zephyr wouldn't even have a market ( except to the hot rodders ). very good cars are prized world wide, and will always eventually be worth something. You can't be serious comparing hiluxs and crusiers to an old classic. Have you forgotten how absolutely hideous the old hiluxs and cruisers are ? bone breaking ride on there cart springs, no axle articulation, wheezy sluggish enignes, noisy drivetrain, clunky 4wd system with no center diff etc... offroad the old rangeys are spectacular due to the axle articulation. youtu.be/mmeAr1KETyAWe are just lucky in Australia, that we can still buy shitters really cheaply as they dont' rust away out here like the UK. Give it another 10years and everyone will be cursing the fact they didn't buy a few and put away as now owning one as a "toy" is out of there reach. Another example of this is the Citroen DS's I own. 10 years ago tired, drivable registered cars were $1500 -> $3000 .... These days the world wide price has heavily effecting the cheap value they had in Australia (people are just buying them and exporting htem). You wont find a driver ... even battered and rusty for less than $10,000. The really good ones ( In similar condition to you Zephyr ... So I mean REALLY NICE ) .... don't get advertised. They change hands for $40,000+++ to others than "know" of the cars without them being advertised. We really are lucky in Australia to be isolated so these cars have stayed "afforadable" for the average punter for so long! seeya, Shane L.

I remember a few years back there was an orange Charger for sale, looked in original condition, asking $180k. So I think there is still a LOT of money out there and people think "I cant take it with me" so splash out on sentimental purchases. Funnily enough, my wife gives my flack cos I have a "wreck rangie" taking up space in the garage and I keep telling her its an 'investment'

You need to build a nice new shed to put stuff where she can't see in ..... They only usually complain when they can see stuff to complain about (if they dont' see the car in question.... they obviously will complain about something else ... ). I'd suggest a nice 30 x 12meter shed for the backyard. That's what I would like A cars monetary value is irrelevant to me ... If it makes me smile ... that's all that matters (just as well I like $500 shitboxes right ? ). seeya, Shane L.

I'd suggest a nice 30 x 12meter shed for the backyard. That's what I would like seeya, Shane L. The trouble is the size you suggest will eventually become not adequate. My shed is 13.5 X 22mtrs and it is full (although a major re organisation might improve things) and would like to build another one for the overflow. Any hobby that involves restoring or building cars (or caravans) takes up a lot of space, plus the years of collectables that you can't convince yourself to dispose of. Warren

Those 'Old" Falcons and Holdens selling for mega bucks are not ordinary garden variety models they are the upper end performance special limited build models come back to garden variety 1000's built mum and dad poverty packs and the number drops dramatically not back to RR or Citroen $$$$$'s but back to in most cases to sub 50K which is fair considering the costs associated with restoring one The money is in the rarity of the model and how popular the image of it was in it's day sadly RR NEVER had much of an image here nor did Citroen or Renault they were the Great Wall Cherry or Mahindra of the 60's and 70's due to limited distribution and lack of service knowledge and repair facilities All newcomers to the market had a struggle in Aus my mate had a BP garage in the 60's and for a while had a Mazda and Renault distribution licence there was no dealership he sold one got another to park in the service bay did not inspire confidence re warranty

They were bloody brilliant. I grew up in the back seat of R10s and R16's. Incredibly reliable .. the old R16TS would leave pretty much every car of it's era in it's wake out on the highway. Sadly they are worth absolutely nothing these days. I can't understand the value of old holdens and fords. They were real ordinary in there day ... and are no better today. The Renault 16TS would have been as fast in a straight line as a lot of V8's in it's day ... and certainly had a top speed close to them... It out rode and out handled them... And is worthless today. The renault 16 we had for about 8 years ... all it got was the occasional oil change ... and that's it. It never missed a beat. I think it got a set of spark plugs at one point after I said to my father "you know it runs on two cylinders a lot of the time when mums driving it" ... he pulled the plugs and found them completely burnt away. seeya, Shane L.

While you guys are discussing horsepower, here is a one horse effort: With 20 days off in January binging at the Parkes Festival I fell 257 kms behind my target. With a 109KM ride yesterday I filled the gap!! Now we have a week of rain forecast, indoor riding is not counted. link

Here is another batch ready for market, just waiting for their sheaths to be made: The Sunspot Orange handle knife is made from Damascas steel , several folds make this the best steel there is. Most of these scales (handles) are made from a new USA product called Kirinite, beaut colours. The black handle with the red lines is another Damascas.

Do you have a website or anything to sell these or what? I’m interested. I want a custom chef knife that I can keep to myself that my Wife won’t cut dumb nuts up with - needs to be able to be sharpened to a professional standard - my son is a Butcher so keeps my knives razor sharp. Damascas or a high carbon steel preferred. Is that one with the black handle and red lines still available?

Hi Al, Thank you for the story, not sure how they justify $4K ?? Could be the "girl learns tradition thing?" Most art knife creators in the USA barley get that with knives adorned in 18ct gold. I use top steels, hand finish, and every knife is different but struggle to get $169.00? linkThe 10 ton press is a must, otherwise you spend all day at the forge, a young girl just could not apply the energy needed to commercially make knives by hand hammering the pattern. Cheers brent
