Well, that was a real stuff-up, the Chinese had a ball 4 times, proving the security on the web site was no trouble at all to break through,
And what about the all important questions, IE: do you look after children ? how many vehicles on the property, ? don't worry about, cost of running, rego costs, price off fuel, cost of running the Family Home, "Hell NO" these items don't worry the Pollies !!!
Nothing important like, how often do you use a Public Bus, or use a Library, visit a hospital, or require assistance in daily transport, just to name a few things which to my way of thinking would be better for the "Clever Dick's" to work out where the country is going.
There, I've had my gripe, What do you think

I dont believe it was successfuly hacked, I think they are just using that as an excuse, I dont think the system was capable of handling the traffic.. From what I understand( from someone close to the ATO ) it was not "hacked" it was overloaded with spam similar to what sometimes happens to lots of computers , think of an old fashioned letter box 6"x6"x10" all good till the postie delivers 400 letters then the entry slot is jammed nothing is going in there when this happened they just shut it down as that was the only way to clear the back log

We still have not received any forms/numbers, finally got a reply e-mail yesterday:-
Thank you for your query about the 2016 Census on Wednesday 3 August 2016.
In some areas of Australia, including areas that are more rural and areas where a greater need for paper forms is expected, paper forms will be hand delivered by Field Officers along with a unique login number. When approached by a Field Officer, please inform them regarding your circumstances. The Field Officer will be able to assist you.
Census material may arrive after census night, and may be completed, as soon as possible, once the material has been received.
You will not receive a fine for submitting late.
You will still be able to access the online form until Saturday 24 September, we will still be accepting paper forms until October. Remember that all questions on the form relate to Census night, August 9th and should be filled out accordingly .
If you need help or more information, search our online Help. If you can't find the information you're looking for, call 1300 214 531.
After 5 phone calls and a long wait we will see just how long it takes. As for being in a rural area have been told by others in the area that some roads that have been there for 100 years are listed as 'No such street/road known', we are in the area of Vincentia NSW, reasonably large town on the NSW south Coast.

The more I hear the more I think I may have been wrong. Yep...nothing new about that..
from a previous life I have knowledge of outside interests bombarding a site to intentionally crash it, also had experience with a new system being launched to the 'public' without proper beta testing. Be interesting to hear what the cause was, if they ever share it.
Funny analogy you had to quote.. the local mail box was a absolutely chockers on Wednesday morning.. I used the "old fashion" way, filled out a paper form 😉

Be interesting to hear what the cause was, if they ever share it. Funny analogy you had to quote.. the local mail box was a absolutely chockers on Wednesday morning.. I used the "old fashion" way, filled out a paper form 😉 Way back in 2003 i had a bot attack on my & other yahoo mail users, averaged approx 2-4000 emails per day! Took about 2 months for them to fix it. Newer ones are around. Anyone silly enough to only rely on a telstra or bigpond email address may think back a week or two! What happens now is the provider just shuts down the server, so customers do not get bombarded. Census, i was posted as away on the place i use as my residential address & the caravan park i stayed at that night said they do a bulk report. The previous 2 census i have been overseas for so DFAT just reports citizens as away = much easier. I have not seen it on this site but on others i visit & or used to run, sometimes you will notice say 22,000 visitors in the last 24 hours. A lot depends on where the site is hosted, it seems. What started as a simple fan site, for a UK actress, i took over, was hosted here then attacked, causing the entire server to be quarantined for almost 2 days. Looking at the sources via various proxies it seemed a mix of Eastern Euro sites chasing e commerce details from others also off the same server. A separate issue was from the Middle East, after she did a racy movie a malicious shut the place down lurgie planted. The host then moved sites & servers around, so anything aimed at cheap pop culture would not affect his main clients again.

I remember the good old days when there was no problem with mail getting hijacked by third parties, the only safe way back then was the good old..... hand written letter !!! Sealed in an envelope and hand delivered by the Postie carrying a dirty great leather bag. Things might have been slower then but, they were a heck of a lot safer. K.J.

I remember many great leather bag folks being caught and prosecuted, back in the days of folks sending cash notes and "interesting" present parcels, never finding their destinastion. One of the reasons after 15 years with fights about manditory criminal checks, that the former PMG then Aus Post was the first to semi privatise & formed Parcel Post.
