Value can't really be given without seeing the caravan.... If it's rotten and leaky very little.... If it's all nicely resealed and not rotten... it's worth something. You really need to go and have a look at it. Piccies hide to much to be of value usually seeya, Shane L.

Cheers for the reply, he just messaged me with an update after his once over. His reply: Its towable. In good condition. Was registered when i purchased it but i never got it qld rego'd. Franklin caravan. 1986 model im pretty sure. Fridge not working the best. Its now an awesome spare room. Air con works great. New tv. Think it may be an arrow. The back window is sealed with silicon. No leaks. I fixed some wood rot near the door. Surface rust on the chassis thats about it. Has a water tank, the bung is missing. Foot pump for water works.
Are these big issues and how hard would a bung be to chase up and to get the back window working again/ replaced? Thanks again

Hi Johno88, Firstly it can't be 1986,as Franklin closed in 1981! Can't tell exact year as I can't see the roof hatch, but if it's 4 seasons it is about 1974 or so,and the interior has been painted over the wood grain, always better to see in person in case it's a botch job. Cheers hughdeani

Thanks hughdeani, what will the hatch look like? I'll be going to vie wit at some stage today so I'll get a heap more pics. Is there anything I should be looking out for?

Hijohno88, The hatch will either have a plastic winder at each end, which will be roughly up to 1972 or 73,or it will have 4 metal faps, one on each side that open independently. That will date it later. I can usually give an interior date with wood and upholstery colours, but as its changed its more difficult. Also if you give us a chassis number that will help. Cheers hughdeani

The age doesn't really matter. It's the condition. You really need to look at it. I've had people tell me there caravan are 100% leak and rott free ... drove hours to look at the .... walk over, open the caravan door .... the stink of mold and moisture hits you as soon as you open the door..... You curse, turn around walk back to your car and drive back home. No point if even looking inside. If it stinks like mold and rot.... it will be rotten and moldy You really need to go and look. An alternative is to pay a caravan repairer near by to go and look at it for you. If he gives it the thumbs up, your good to go. Don't get me wrong, he'll find a million and one things wrong with an old caravan. But all you want to know is if it's structurally ok and not rotten. seeya, Shane L.

I have a 1977 Arrow, the hatch in yours is the same as in my van. You have to look for the condition of the J rails and the roof cladding joins. The Arrows leak there. Have a look how is the inside pait and if start peeling in some spots. If peel it is because the used the wrong primer. Your van have a small stove so chances are that it is an old model. Have a look the photos of my van.

Thanks Gitano, I was a bit unsure as the seller did say it was an arrow model but then said 1986... Then the rego says made in 1900... I'm taking the missus out for a look later on today but the issue is the inside is all freshly painted in the last few months. I'll do my best though but I'm sure the missus will find all the issues with it that I may overlook haha! So it is an arrow but prior to 1977?

When you go and have a look it check the chassis number on the drawbar and the welded serial number.

Just took the missus for a look Gitano and yet to have that "chat" about it when we get home. Draw bar says W8719 if that helps narrow it down?

Hi.
i agree with Gitano.
i found out that the Franklin's are prone to leaks at the corners ( under the J rails ). The rear window can catch people out too, as mine actually leaked at the roof rear corners and appeared to be leaking at the rear window. Once I re did the J Rails, the leaks stopped
i thought that yours is an early model, by the cupboard door handles...but the the 4 seasons hatch indicates otherwise....

Hi Pete, thanks for your reply. The door handles are an "upgrade" the hopefully previous owner has done for his missus. I'm glad you mentioned the rear window as he said it was leaking so he sealed it shut. That will be one of the first things I do is re seal the outside as much as I can then paint to further help stop any leaks. From what I've read on other threads with the chassis number being W8719 it is a 1975 arrow model. Few issues here and there and very low to the ground while being towed on a 4x4 apparently...

Hi Jonno.
ive kept the 13" wheels on my Arrow, and tow with a 4WD Triton. Does sit quite low, but is level, so that helps. I wanted to keep mine mostly original.
The water leaks will be abit of a battle, so I learned (from this forum) to do it right from the start, and you should be right. I even had leaks coming from the seams under the side windows ( along the full length of the caravan). Ran a bead of Sika along it and problem solved.
plenty of people on this forum, to help
i put heaps of pics on my thread as I went along 👍

Thanks Pete, from what I've been reading in the other threads I'm better off just using sika on every joint I can find from top to bottom before painting just to double make sure it's 100% sealed. Back windows should be easy enough to re do the seals and get them working again (don't see the point in windows that don't work...) Any idea on how much rego is in qld before I go waisting money on day passes?

For sure. Flexible, UV, and paintable. Saves a lot of heartache down the track 👍

That's what I am after! Do the hard yards now and relax/ reap the rewards later. The owner has dropped his price to $3000 "just to get rid of it" so hopefully it's worth the money at that price. You wouldn't know what they roughly go for?

I'm glad you said that Gitano! Makes the missus a bit easier about the while situation haha. Thanks for the reassurance and honesty!

Agreed Gitano, 3k you cannot go wrong. I found that the resto (parts) weren't overly expensive. It was more the time involved.....
The neat Arrows I've seen advertised at around 8k.....
Just trawled through my old resto posts.....Ahhhh the joy, lol

Haha well hopefully I'll be able to start my own photo memories soon! Just rang the bloke and I'm now the proud owner of my own 1975 Franklin Arrow! He is going to go over it and clean it all up for me so I can pick it up later in the week. Can't wait to start doing the Reno on it and making it our own. Really appreciate the words of wisdom and advice off you guys. Yous confirming the great price really helped out a lot!

You can change this thread title (using the top right hand side EDIT button on your first post)to the format others have here in The Hall Of Fame eg :1975 Franklin Arrow - W8719
