Considering the transient nature of this forum i think we should try to gather a data base of Classics that are actually original, or restored with like - seconded materials and fittings. I can see a time where most classics are just "hot rods" made to be used for todays tastes and or practicalities, rather than represent what was used or came out of the factory floor when new. My main reason being is that way when folks come here, after purchasing a find, can decide what way to go onto respray, paint over/ replace interior paper ply and re cover to suit, etc. Those who can may wish to preserve at least one of each type, for later generations,so down the track some classics will be displayed faithfully, rather than interpreted. I still have ringing in my ears the excited gasps from various visitors saying "oooh now this IS vintage!", "My Dad - Grandparents had a version of this, mostly same - orange or purple", while viewing my old olive green beast amazingly (sadly) after they had just stepped out of various restored vintage vans, most at least two decades older, but re vamped to a whimsy rather than intended. Worst case scenario may be that a CC site lurker/ guest reading that there are already 3 examples of their make/ model, so going the boot stripe and checkerplate exterior and neutering the interior to "look fresh" can be done with a clear mind... and help increase the *value of originals. Thoughts?
*No price disscussion is allowed on this site, i am just pointing out a reality and possible incentive for owners plus before it is too late some preservation of our build history.

I hear you Ate.
Before we renovated we investigated the new path & found these caravans were not selling for the prices they should have.
We decided to go as near as possible to original, mainly because we liked the original any way.
Its hard!!! paint & wall paper can hide a myriad of sins. We even renovated ply & re-installed it to be original.
I guess original is listed in the "Ye old Classic Museum" so,
I believe we are here to encourage DIY and Classic caravaning but the way a member wants to "hot Rod" is up to them, if original is the wish then there is
plenty of evidence between here & Vintage Vans forum, as we have found. Cheers Brent

Agreed, the important choice is are we making something to use and enjoy as an alternative to newer options etc. What is not easy in evidence, apart from the nightmare of time sourcing and cost, is the need to save a particular type and model, a point i touched on in the VV forum and was shot down re display. And later chat and observations among the many sub groups and owners on the various web and travel platforms. Currently the Ye Old is an ongoing area that picks up articles and information about the maker, without any ongoing reference to existing caravans of that marque that may have at one time been active here, once set up, a register of projects for each thread will make life a lot easier down the track. Decades creep fast, as can be seen around this long term resource, so a small bit of information can speed up the resto/ hot rodding process. Search function limitations mean especially for newbies to internet the process of tracking down helpful areas is ad hoc or relies on our gurus to drag a link after hunting... especially when so many duplicate threads about a project get created in various sub forums. Much of that is because similar issues may be common across all makes. It will be interesting to see over the next few years if "rat rod" style projects are created, to mirror similar tastes in vehicles.
