That is one to restore time warp style! This Jones wheel thing is it powered? Does it go up under a frame height when in transit mode?

The wheel was designed to take the weight off the back of the car. No its not powered.

Thanks Bob, that seems dangerous rather than use a properly matched tug. I remember being scared witless, as a kid in the early to mid 1970s, going away up that single lane Pacific Highway with caravans taking up to three wandering around behind all sorts of family cars being controlled by loaded caravans. I vowed as a kid never to have one but the cost practicality of an old caravan V an old similar volume campervan means here i iz!

I was passenger in a car that use to tow a caravan through the back blocks of Queensland in the late 50's early 60's. Had to stop and open the gates to go thru the different properties. The cars all had soft rear suspensions the caravans were never very big, mostly 12 & 14 footers. I recall a number of caravans using this dolly wheel and the other dual wheel ones. The cars could not go that quick with a van on the back. But as time progressed into the mid 60's cars got better. Speed.. never a speed limit [obeyed]I recall sitting in the back seat [no seat belts]of my fathers new VC val with a 12foot franklin on the back and the speedo was wandering beween the 70/ 75 mph mark. I remember rather vividly the comment my father made when a chev towing a caravan overtook us and left us for dead. I cannot print it here. My brother and I got excited when the little Mini Cooper stopped us on our way home, the same year. The ol' fella wasn't.

The 16-18 foot classics towed with HR etc all max loaded with the family and gear would start swaying at 70KLM never mind faster! My brother was into minis, his boss was a multi Australian mini Champ in the things( Gulson), he still has his 1977 mini sunshine ( never had a towbar tho! ) it looks stock but until the 2000s & newer blocks to boar bigger, would wipe all other minis up to a well sorted V8 on the open road.
