Hi. Hubby and I have just bought a vintage camper to do a full reno on This is our first ever foray into the world of caravanning. My parents are veteran "gray nomads" so I have learnt a bit via osmosis, but first hand experience is always better. Can anybody shed any light on what we have actually bought?? The old rego sticker says 1988 Viscount but I have serious doubts about that I have started a blog to document our journey. Feel free to have a look. pushupcamperproject.blogspot.com.au/ (there a re lots more pics too Thanks

Hi moyjos, Your camper trailer was made by Campermaster in Melbourne in about 1982 or thereabouts, recognised it straight away with that low back club lounge and the furniture colours and configeration. They also made pop tops,of which you see for sale occasionally. Hope this helps Cheers hughdeani

Hi moyjos, They only made one model of camper,of which yours is it. The pop tops you will probably see on classified websites, but don't hold your breath! They weren't around for long,so hence not many for sale. Cheers hughdeani

Thanks highdeani , With the rarity of the brand , do you think this may present a problem when it comes to re- registering ? Or should we just "lie" and declare the brand as per the previous registered "1988 Viscount". ?

You won't know until you get to the rego office! All depends on the person behind the counter, they might be happy you have the proper name and date! Good luck!

Unlike the NSW process of blue slip, where the inspector can determine and correct the information to be provided, if there is no recent computer data base history of VIN, in QLD it appears that your camper may end up as a custom build, if no "current spec" of manufacturers plate is attached! A mate had this happen to his trailer that while having a basic manufacturers name plate and NSW VIN plate, was deemed to be a custom build, for QLD rego = strange place and rules lol!

You won't have an issue in Victoria, rego is a snap on vans - not sure about other states though.

However as Hughdeni suggests I would present a happy face at the counter & tell them you now have MORE correct info to add to the certificate. If you decide to insure they will need more specific details. I have found Ryno very good. Good luck
