Thats good news. I also forgot to add that hollow axles are now not legal in most sates anyway. Nice old van by the way. can't wait to see the finished product.

Suspect my van is similar to yours. 18" dual axle viscount 74 model.
If this helps... After my renovation my van weighed 1440kg. This includes - reverse cycle a/c (permanently fitted a kogan portable a/c ($250!!!!!) -flush toilet -2 single beds and a sofa bed (latex mattress) -microwave -full size 240v kitchen fridge (albeit one of the smaller ones) -sink/ exhaust fans -dining table -insulation all round 12v agm 40amp/hr battery and 12v water pump
Note, to save weight I stripped -gas, hot water system. There is no shower
May give you food for thought. The engineers needed to strengthen my drawbars to have an updated ATM 1750kg (from 1360kg).... No other changes were needed

I got a fright with my van. it was was 850kg when i started the restoration and once completed i weighed it and was 1400kg plus. How could i have added 600kg to the van. I guess it all adds up. anyway i had my accident with the axle when it sheered off out of Tenterfield so I had a new 45mm square axle made. After thinking about it i decided to upgrade to a 2200kg axle and springs. 1400kg van and i had 2 x95L water tanks 2x9Kg gas bottles and a grey water tank. Thats almost 300kgs already. thats going to make the new 45mm axle rating of 1600kg not good enough. it will be close to 2000kg by the time i add food clothing and personal effects. The last thing i want is for another axle failure and maybe loose my van. I spent $1800 on springs axle and upgraded tyres to suit 2200Kg max capacity. thats for a single axle.50mm axle 12" brakes and land cruiser 6 stud rims with 15" light truck tyres. I know its a lot of money but its peace of mind if your heading around Australia full time. I also added some extra strength under the van in the form of chassis additions and a new draw bar as well. All in all i have over spent on the van but i am happy with the vans stability and load carrying capacity. I have had spring over and spring under axle and i believe spring under works better for my van. Its nice to know that with everything i want loaded i am still under max capacity.

The weight can certainly ad up.... Some quick calculations like supreme78 put together would be advisable before renovation.
I did some quick calculations when i renovated and was mildly confident my enhancements would not ad that much.... (Seeing I stripped 100kg by removing gas and water tanks (carry them in the car)...
Note.... If you are in qld if your renovated van exceeds 2 tonnes you will need brakes on every wheel..
