G'day people,
Got my first caravan on the weekend. It says that it is a Viscount Duralvan. I'm not to sure on the year/model that it actually is. I have spent the past 3 days going over the electrics with a multi-meter and the wiring is immaculate for both 12vDC and 240vAC. I was mainly wondering what year model it is, as the number on the side of the chassis is A6498. It has the sellers plate that states that it was originally sold by Croydon Caravans. Apart from a little surface rust on the chassis and a few dings its in good condition. I am thrilled that this Australian site is in exhistance. It has already given me some ideas and direction on where to go next with this project. Thanks in advance to any help that you can give me. Best Regards Claybags

G'day claybags, and welcome to the forum! Your chassis number could be most likely from the 1969 time period, or perhaps from the early part of 1970. Is the cladding on the van painted white, with a "lightning flash" design painted over that on the sides? Or is the background cladding plain aluminium with the same lightning flash on the sides? The threads from this forum relating to Viscount Duralvans are this first one with the chassis number of A7377... ditzygypsy.proboards.com/thread/2198/1970-viscount-a7377And this other thread with the chassis number of A7223... ditzygypsy.proboards.com/thread/2107/1970-viscount-a7223 (you have to click on the photo details in each post in this thread to make the photos show up). Have a read of both those threads and you should see some similarities with your van. cheers, Al.

Thanks for having me on board guys. I looked at both threads and it looks more like the second model. It came with an Annex also which I am yet to assemble. The top hatch winder is also broken as I attempted to wind it open today. Has 2x13" HR Rims and no spare. I am quite pleased with it and am hoping to take it to Alice Springs by the end of the year. I want to try and keep it as original as possible as Vintage caravans are quite kitch nowadays. Is there a service/owners manual in existence? Thanks.
