Hi all. I thought I'd join up seeing as there looks to be a lot of helpful people with excellent information on here that will come in handy.
My wife has been keen for a caravan for a while now, she used to travel with her folks in one as a kid. And Christmas time the bug bit again, and she started looking more actively. We came across one just down the road in Batemans Bay NSW. My father-in-law and I headed on down for a look early one morning. And it followed us home again.
Its meant to be a 1974 Viscount Ambassador. The chassis number is E6664. Does this tell anyone any different? But we loved the front windows on it, and the classic shape was what we were after. We bought it the morning after 3 days of heavy rain, so was a good time to check for leaks. Was nice and water tight from what we could see.
Enough waffle from me. Lets just get some pics up. This is it after a bit of a wash down to get all the muck of it. Its been resprayed at some stage so looks pretty good (from a distance where you can't see the runs ). There are a few dings in the sides though, but no matter.
The chassis number
Inside was all there, a little knocked about it places, but nothing too bad. The previous people just wanted to get out of camping, so had left everything in it. We pulled everything out and it filled the verandah. So much stuff.
It came with an old Electrolux fridge. There was also a microwave and all the other kitchen appliances too.

We pulled the fridge out and plugged it into the 240V to see if it worked. And after a while it started getting cool. Happy days! Need to work out if its going to work on gas though.
Yup, getting cold in here
It looks like it used to have the 2 single beds at the back, but they've been converted to a big double.
And on the side there was a dodgy little fold out baby bunk, but we pulled that out as it was not needed. Not sure why there are the 2 small windows on this side though. Maybe there were bunks on this side at some stage? The bottom window here isn't glass like all the others, its plastic. But all the frame and fittings are the same.
So there is heaps that we need to tidy up. All the window seals need sorting out. I've got a few sample bits of rubber so we'll see if they fit and then start replacing. We need to work out what is going on with the 12V power. There is a switch in the cupboard above the sink to go between 12 and 240, but only the 240 is working. I'd like to set up a battery in the van that charges off a solar panel. But then it is handy having the 240V still where there is a powered site. Any thoughts on this?
