Hi all, we have just bought our first caravan, she is a 1976 15 foot York poptop in fair to reasonable condition. The original stove has been removed as has the gas line for the stove and the fridge. Being unused for about 18 months the old girl is quite dirty, nothing some elbow grease cannot fix. This morning I managed to find the original 12 volt wiring for the lights and switches in the celing, so now I am able to add the solar panel, auxiliary battery and some new lighting and auxiliary points around the van. One thing that I could really do some help with is the fridge. It is an Electrolux Gas/Electric Made In Sweden. wanting to be able to wire this in to my 12v system as well, there are yellow, red and black wires that all come or go to the back of the fridge. The previous owner had a switch and a warning light connected to this wiring, so they knew it was on 12v and not to drain the tow vehicle battery. This does not concern me know as I am going to run a completely separate 12v system. I am assuming that once I disconnect the 240 side of the fridge then the 12 should take over ?. I will add some pics of our little find and hope that maybe someone can shed some light to my questions. Stay safe and happy travels BrettnJa Unable to load photos because files are too large

Welcome to the forum. For pictures, I find it easier to use a photo hosting site such as Photobucket, then copy the IMG links into your post. Can't help with the fridge sorry, mine is only a 2 way so not sure how the 12 volt system interacts with the others.

Welcome to the forum, reduce the photos size to 800 the wide side and 72 dpi saved in jpg format and will be OK. To organize your folder you can put an extension on the file/image name like caravan-web.jpg so you know which images are for porting in the net.

A simple way without photoShop etc, of reducing photo size is to E-Mail them to yourself to your E-Mail account using Windows (Right Button Mouse - Send to E-Mail) when the dialog box shows select the smallest size, when the E-Mail arrives back in you E-Mail Account save with a new name then use this new jpg is ready to upload.
Hope this helps,

Hi Brett With your fridge, I would be finding an auto lekky that understands 12v. Old fridges can be hard on batteries, you will need a second at best, but also a set up that has DC to DC charging.

Welcome to the group.
Ok your fridge will be the original 3 way fridge ?? If it is you have no chance of running it on 12v The reason is it will be using a heating element to operate and they draw loads of power. You will find it works well on gas and 240v as they have the power/heat to operate the fridge, the 12v side is only there for when you are travelling and it does not cool the fridge at all but just keeps it at the temp it was at when removed from gas or 240V, if travelling for hours it may even slowly warm. If your plan is to be totally 12v/solar I would recommend you get a new 12/24/240v fridge that are designed to operate on 12v.
Cheers
