Have acquired a Viscount 12 foot pop top. The number on the draw bar is V5892. Does that mean in was manufactured on the 5th of August 1992?
Cheers

Ok will put up photo tomorrow. In the mean time I found the gas compliance plate under several layers of paint. It says the gas installation was done on 2/7/82 which makes it an 82 model not 92. Will be interested to hear your comments. I believe it has an aluminium frame as the cladding and lining are attached with rivets.

Ok next question relates to window winders (surprise surprise). How do I get inside these units to make repairs. Couple sound like the cogs are worn out.

Hi all ,definately 1982 Grand Tourer. Thought to be the best vans Viscount ever made. I vaguely remember someone on this forum that had a recipe for cleaning winder boxes?? Maybe they will remind us. Cheers hughdeani

Winder boxes are available from Caravans Plus for little money, but pull yours apart first to see if any cogs have shedded. Otherwise condition looks good.

Thanks hughdeani. Reassuring to know that. I suspect it has an aluminium frame.
Mustang - how do I go about pulling them apart?
Cheers

Cheers The assembly is what is called a friction fit, they are simply pressed together with a locating pin. Look for a seam & push a non sharp but thin blade in the seam & twist. The non winding box on the opposite side needs to be synchronised so they work together. Most winders are not the fault, its usually sticky old seals, poorly aligned frames, etc.

Thanks Mustang. By the sound of the noise coming from inside I would say the winder cog is missing a few teeth. Will give it a go and see what gives. Cheers
