With the sudden rush of new Arrows on here it's interesting to note the differing door layouts.
Ours has the louvered section in the lower half (as does atefooterz and a couple of others), but most seem to have the vents in the top portion of the door. Even vans of the same year differ.
I thought the idea of those vents was to allow any leaking LPG or CO to escape.

I'm fairly sure the vents in the bottom of your door are part of the gas appliance approval process. Gas is heavier then air so it would not be able to build up if they is an escape path for it to move along. I have seen vents placed in the floor on some caravans for the same reason.

Mine is blank at the bottom with an X pressed into it. There is a section in the top of the door that opens (or would if I had the key...) and the bottom half of this is louvered.

Mine has the same "X" folded into the top section, albeit bigger. The top section of ours also opens (or used to until I riveted it closed). I'm told there's not many different keys, so if you want one, contact me and I'll post the spare to try.

That was my recollection as well. This other arrangement looks very odd, although it's too common to be a Monday morning "thing".

Don't think so, top bit opens up as a big screen area and it wouldn't make sense to be at the bottom.

Is there any vents in the floor of your van, under the table or seating area ? Gas being heavier then air it will collect at the lowest point and slowly fill it up. This where you see vents in some of the caravans doors down the bottom. Mind you this is only if you have gas appliances in your caravan.
Cheers

Hi sean Is there any vents in the floor of your van, under the table or seating area ? It's not just seans van, there's quite a few on here with the same arrangement. I'm confident that the doors are still fitted as built.

I'm confident that the doors are still fitted as built. Either those vans do not have any gas appliances in them or have vents (large or lots) in the floor. Otherwise 1 x gas leak = confetti

Only other venting is on the back for the fridge
It has a gas fridge and cooktop / oven (which seems original)

Well the van is registered and on the road so it has passed all it's checks at some point in time. I think planner and I have seen the same something either on the net on this forum somewhere - about getting your gas safety certificate and vent/s re safety. But we could both be miles off the mark with why they have vents in the lower door.
Another thought is they were built before the standards were introduced ?? Where's hughdeani when you need him lol, if someone will know he will
cheers

You're on the right track with the vents being for gas certification.
I May add a vent later for safety sake
I might even be forced to if I get a gas fitter to do the plumbing for the new 3-way fridge I'm looking to order. I think mine has let go, it doesn't work and the plastic inside is bubbled badly
Found one that will fit in the hole for less than $400 brand new, my plan of just sealing and tidying it has stretched by about a grand between the fridge and new axle/brakes.

my plan of just sealing and tidying it has stretched by about a grand between the fridge and new axle/brakes. Trying hard not to giggle. SWMBO bought a "cheap" $1000 van to seal up and use. I haven't tallied the final cost (and not sure that I want to), but it's north of $6,000 and hundreds of hours.

I don't know about other states, but in Vic there is no requirement for ongoing gas certificates/checks. I've heard of this happening, but can't offer any first hand knowledge. I assume that upon first rego the gas installation was compliant and that's all that Vicroads care about (and me paying up each year).

Sean hi. My van is an Egg but the vents are the same as yours. No lower vents on the door.
