Bangalow is a small town just inland from Byron Bay & just off the Pacific Highway. It has the best Showground on the NSW North Coast as it’s right in the middle of the town with its beautiful main street & Federation style shops selling gorgeous but expensive boutique stuff. Walk out the Showground’s side entrance on Station St & there are several antique shops & furniture restoration business. Get in the car & drive 15-20 minutes & you’ll be in Byron Bay with all its attractions such as the Lighthouse, beautiful beaches such as Broken Head etc etc. bangalowmarket.com.au/showground/index.html The Showground is available for Groups for $20/night/van. For our Vintage Van Forum group, the only available dates are the last weekend in October or first weekend in December. The general agreement from people at other events has been that December is too hot and busy. So it’s all booked for the last weekend in October, Friday 30 Oct, Saturday 31 Oct, Sunday 1 Nov. Now here’s the fine print! We will have the Showground to ourselves. There are large grassy areas next to toilets/showers that caretaker has given us for our vans. There are plenty of power outlets, so no dramas with numbers of vans. Of course no fires as this is a VERY upmarket Showground. If you want to come, PM or email or text or Post in this thread. Please DON’T phone the Showground. I will keep a tally on this thread of numbers of people wanting to come & I will give the caretaker a list of names so you can all go up to her house (next to where we are camping) & you can pay her when you’re there. I won’t be collecting money but I will need numbers a week before event. Please don’t turn up without any notice. Enter the Showground via Market St which is off Bangalow Rd. Friday night organize your own/shared food or whatever! Saturday night is booked for a night out at the Bangalow Hotel with live music & bistro/restaurant. It’s only 5 mins walk from the Showground to the Pub. I’ve booked a block of tables in the beergarden. You can eat off the bistro or restaurant menu, it’s up to you! Of course if you want to abstain that’s fine too. It’s Halloween so if you want to wear blood soaked costumes, black lipstick/nails etc etc, post on here & we’ll see whether anyone if interested! The Bangalow Hotel booking person suggested it would be fun to celebrate Halloween. Let us know if you want to go the pub on Saturday night. bangalowhotel.com.au/ Menus are under 'menu' funnily enough! So far most people interested in this event like that it isn’t a public display of vans, but is just an opportunity to sit & chat with other like-minded vintage vanners with little to no organizing. This is being organised by "smiles" over on the vintage forum, and yes we are going. If you wish to come along either post up here and I'll let Cathie know or follow the link and send or post your intentions.
If this is half as good as the Xmas in July weekend then it will knock your socks off !

Apologies, we have a prior commitment, sounds like a good weekend. Perhaps we can post a calandar of prospective events for next year, to give everyone notice of these prefered weekends.

Unfortunately with the Vintage forum, a lot of there members like to take their caravans for display at different events around the place. Some of there members are into older cars so will go to the car shows with there vans and others like to go to some events that are geared towards 50's 60's stuff now all of this is listed on there forum and you will see there trip reports. These weekends that "smiles" sets up are just for the rest of us who just like to go away and relax, have a nice meals and sit around a fire or in a group for a chat and a laugh, they are not about who got what van built on which date etc . So it is impossible to set a date a year in front or even 6 months as there are heaps of other events happening that the members go to first before they go to, a sit back weekend so "smiles" works out what's on when and who going where and then sets the weekend up. I am guessing that once your "Vincent" is finished you will be going more to the display/show weekends that the different organisation setup and ask for old vans to go to,for display. Where I'm not interested in that and will not be going to them but will gladly go to a general weekend away. I have started a thread at the top of this section for events etc for 2016 and as different events come up I will add them to as can any member.
I hope that helps clear up how these weekends come about
Cheers

Hi all
We don't have a classic van so I've never joined up with your Group, but I read your posts Lawrence & thought what a great group you are! Friendly, practical & interested in "get out & use that van"!! My sort of Group! So we've joined up! We have a 1965 Propert & a 1971 Haflinger hidden under mountains of 'good stuff' in Himselfs Shed, so we're ALMOST classic!
Lawrence, you've absolutely tagged it in 1 re different people wanting to do different events such as display events, rockabilly, basic camping. Rob & I would come with you to Texas but it's now short notice for that event, but next free-camp-event you organise, we'll be there if it's not too far! Of course, I always assumed members on this Forum are welcome to any events organized on other Forums. Life's too short to get caught up in complexity I reckon! You know KISS Keep It Simple, SIMPLE! Anyway, I'll keep organizing events & encouraging other people to put up events as well. Canungra is booked for Xmas in July for 29-31 July 2016. Cheers Cathie

We sure are a laid back bunch, re Texas I understand, we love to just get out and use our van, we did the same when we owned a camper trailer. I don't put my weekends away on the VV forum as they generally are shortish notice. Petra is looking forward to Bangalow and having a look at the town, it's been over 20 years since we been through there. Also welcome to the CC forum too cheers

Final boarding call...
For anyone else interested in joining us for a fun weekend and loads of laughs, now is the time to speak up or forever hold your peace..
You can come along in any type of caravan or camper trailer. Just remember - those of us that live in the best part of Australia, we are going down to that strange state called NSW and they have a strange time zone thingy happening... so it will be a loooooonnng trip down but a fast one home ! We will be stopping at Chinderah for fuel and breakfast at approx. 8-30amDST.
I believe we have approx. 11 or 12 vans going so will be a top weekend.
Safe travels

A few photo's from the weekend, I had the honour of meeting and camping with Paul (supreme78) and his beautiful little dog Molly, hopefully we will catch up again on his travels, as always we had a wonderful weekend of great company, catching up with our new friends from Canungra. Plus meeting a few new one's as well, we all had a barrel of laughs and the weekend seem to go too fast but a little birdie has told me that we will be doing it again in Feb 2016 so keep an eye on the forum. We would like to thank Cathie (smiles) for putting this trip together and look forward to our next adventure together.
We went and looked at the water, it still looks wet - Lennox heads
Some of the other caravans
5 o'clock drinks on Friday - sorry Mustang I promised to post these on Friday but I was having to much fun
On Saturday morning there was a farmers market and the little lady and I went along and enjoyed fresh coffee and almond croissants
While heading home we stopped at a lookout for a parting photo - till next time.

Thanks to all who attended the weekend it was a hoot. Lots of laughs and great chatting to all these lovely people. Thanks to Lawrence and Petra for their hospitality and making me welcome. It's a lovely bit of country and the Showgrounds was immaculate and a top place for the event. Thanks Cath for organising the weekend. I like seeing some great old vans and enjoyed showing interested people the work I have done on my van. I hope my Toyota landcruiser 1986 might be classed as classic. It's awful close anyway.
