Hello To all,
Arty is my name and it seems in recent months, Millard is my game!
We are a young family of 4 that are the proud owners of what was a tow-able pile of rot and aluminum known as a Millard mini.
All jokes aside, we have MM250, 1976 Millard mini 13'7 in burnt orange. (and it was a pile of rot)
We purchased the van on gum tree last year and i drove down from Brisbane to Sydney to pick her up, looked good in the pics...
All in all the seller lied through his teeth, i had traveled too far to go back empty so i reluctantly handed over the hard earned and I,m sure some of you know very well, i ended up with a BIG small project.
Now all was not lost, Towed amazingly, light weight, and she has a sort of 70's cuteness about her that i don't see in other vans of that vintage.
Missus fell in love with it, so the project began.
Standard, rip everything out, tear it apart and design and budget way after its too late to sell it.... but it has all turned out for the best, Gypsy (as the kids named her) is fast nearing completion and is turning out to not only be something special, but impress me as well (hard to do sometimes).
So a few pics, by the way, i am a marine engineer, not a carpenter!
Gypsy when purchased.
The tear down
The rebuild
So there you have her, at the moment I'm at work for another two weeks, but currently finishing the fit out and the pop roof.
We have chosen to completely re-clad the van in the original profile, as the original was hail damaged for that crisp new build look.
The colour scheme will remain the same with the burnt metallic orange on the skirt and roof sides, though it will have a new white roof sock.
Before the van is finished i will construct a separate chassis with an extended draw bar.
I would just like to say a personal thank you and congratulations to millard1399 for your inspiration write ups and attention to detail, although ours is a complete major refit with a modern themed interior verse retro exterior, your information on the tear down was priceless, and your looks amazing, well done!
Well that's enough for a hello, i hope to chat more about "gypsy" at some stage
