A couple of weeks ago I picked up a new ute, Holden Colorado dual cab. I ordered it with the factory towbar and had the dealer fit it. At the time I didn't specify that I wanted a round 7 pin trailer socket, and it was delivered with a flat 7 pin. No problems, I've got a couple of adapters in the shed, I'll just use that until I get motivated enough to change the socket. Well last night I got motivated enough, but when I removed the flat socket I found it was wired with 2 additional wires (9 in total), now this had me stumped. Google tells me that the additional 2 wires are used to disable the parking sensors when a trailer is connected. This is done to eliminate the beeping due to the car thinking it's going to hit the trailer when reversing. Anyone else heard of this? Anyone else using a round socket with reversing sensors? and if so do you manually switch off beeping or ignore it? It might be simpler to change all of the trailers (5 of) to flat plugs Planner

It doesn't matter what the plug is ... so long as you keep the wiring the same you'll be fine .... You could make your own plugs for all it matter I've wired all mine 7pin round too. However I fitted the tug with both flat and round connectors so if I ever need to move someone elses trailer it'll just plug in! The reversing buzzer will drive you bloody crazy if you have to back a trailer into a confined space if you don't leave the disconnects there. seeya, Shane L.

I fitted a reverse sensor kit to my wifes last car ..... It drove me bloody crazy whenever I had a trailer .............. A constant high pitched sqeal the entire time you were going backwards. seeya, Shane L.

Our Prado has an on/off switch. While there is something being towed it will continue to beep, unless turned off.

Mustang I did contemplate putting a switch in to disable the sensors, but there is always the risk that I ( or un-named others ) might forget to switch them back on. I think I'm resigned to swapping plugs on trailers. I'll make a start this weekend. Planner

Just swap the plug on the car, simply leave the wiring the way it is now, but swap it into the different plug! seeya, Shane L.

Our Prado has an on/off switch. While there is something being towed it will continue to beep, unless turned off. Well I left the socket on car as a flat 7 pin and am currently changing trailer plugs over (using adapter until all jobs complete). Over the weekend I had the need to shift a trailer at the inlaws, this involved reversing for 100-120m. I wasn't going on the road, so just connected up and went, no lights, no chains and jockey wheel still in clamp. After about 30m the piercing beep of the reverse sensors caused me to get out and plug in the lights. I had thought that I could deal with the noise, but not so.
