They don't seem to have a lot of parts, but at least they are having a go.

Not a lot there... interesting to read they think old mastic contains upto 25% asbestos ..... I hadn't realised that. Given were breaking it up for removal..... It isn't dusty at all though, it's in big chunks, so likely safe unless your sanding it.

Wow I didn't know that, I used a power drill and a paint remover pad to clean the edges of my van up and only had a mask on half the time
Wonder if that going to come back and bite me !!

What about where we wear a mask while cleaning it off .... But it's on the ground, in the dirt and dust in the sheds for the next few years..... Oh well, not much we can do about it. We could be safe given were talking mid '70s ... most 'vans would have been resealed multiple times by then!

Ive made a habit of blowing my shed out every week (without a mask, that is probably worse?). A friend has asbestosis, he was a plumber & drilled holes through asbestos walls for years. Whats worse is bl**dy Hardies new about the problems for years.

Whats worse is bl**dy Hardies new about the problems for years. A golden era when sucessive goverments allowed weasel policy with not only Hardies but also Union Carbide and others to leave legacies, many that now are considered too expensive to fix, using our tax money natually. The history of Allen Allen & Hemsley, later Allens, make for fun investigation of senior partner JW Howard and asbestos Julie. Calling out all bludgers and scammers...

G'day All, I've mentioned before that there isn't much about Classic Caravans that hasn't already been talked about on this forum over the eight years since the forum started. The real challenge is to find a way for people to easily access all that helpful info... Asbestos in old caravanscheers, Al.

Thanks Al, no one should be too lax with restoring anything old, when mesothelioma and other respiratory issues can take hold of the unsuspecting.

so does anyone know if the asbestos was still used in the 80s? As I have a massive amount of it to clean off still Millitary grade mastic tapes, as used on radio stuff, stopped having asbestos in the late 70s (supposedly). It develops a hard top skin and if temp is high enough retains some elastic character. Harder stuff is treated as suspicious as who knows what fillers are/were used? Best to just wear a dust mask & gloves, i am sure you are not making fiberous clouds however basic precaution should be taken. No different really to playing with pre 70s lead paint sanding/ scraping. How do you know if that faded flakey enamel is lead or not?
