Hi all, I am looking to put roof racks on top of my ACT Camper but worry about the strength of the fibreglass roof being strong enough. I want to carry a kayak on top. Any tips on installing roof racks?

Mine has racks. They are mounted to where the upright support posts attach to the roof. Mine carries a tinny with no problems. I can fit a kayak along side with no problems. I would not drill holes in the roof to mount a rack. Is your roof on good condition? I found the plywood reinforcing in mine was starting to rot so I replaced all of it on one side & the front. Good for another 40 years now.

Hi all! This site has been amazing for the ideas in our Consort Reno! Removed the rods and replaced with bent sheets of stainless and then topped it off with the gas struts, pretty bloody excited now lol Onsite has had a make over, and working on the canvas, once everything is done inside, and holes are patched from the removal of the strange little guide bars that didn’t seem to do much, will be painting the old girl Thank you all for your information scrolling through the posts

Good Day, My partner and I are restoring a 1976 ACT Consort right now. We have ripped out the rotten marine ply in the roof and are replacing it with 15mm marine ply and will be repairing the cracked and damaged fiberglass which was allowing water into the roof. We have also replaced the lino floor, all the upholstery, cushions, swapped the original table top with tas oak, painted the interior. We plan to replace all the bench space with Tas oak also. It's looking beautiful. So much work to do but we're having fun figuring out how everything works. We have taken lots photos of the roof construction and process repairing the roof to post here later.

Hi Andy, I just bought a 1978 ACT cruiser and would be very kean to see the windup conversion pages you have, I am in a wheelchair most of the time and have been searching everywhere for how to convert these campers to an easier lift system If you are unable to post all 20 on this forum (not sure if there are restrictions ?) Would you please email them to me at felicity@iprimus.com.au Thanks,
Now about your windup modifications. My ACT Camper is a windup and I am happy to sort you out with any photos etc but I can actually go one better. I checked the pile of papers I got when I bought it and I found a booklet called Assembly Instructions for Camp Care Conversion Kit. This appears to be a step by step instructions for converting the ACT camper to a windup. It has diagrams, colour photos and detailed instructions. All up it's about 20 pages of information. I will scan it today and then I just need to work out how to upload it to the forum. Andy
