Have you got any pics Layback? Would love to see some. I've just purchased some gas struts, any tips for installing them not already covered on the forum? Thanks 😊

Thanks 😊 Next camping trip I will take some pics. Most important thing is to have a little adjustment (elongated holes) so you can fine tune them. When you first put them on, hold the brackets in place with clamps or vice grips so you can get them in the right place before drilling holes in the posts.

Hi guys , I've been quiet .. Where does time go- anyway I'm looking for recommendations for a product to paint the roof / all of my consort with- it isn't leaking as such but it's porous I think- what Can I use to seal and freshen up . The canvas on the bed end is wearing thin so I'm thinking of getting the flys, as I have the sail tracks ,what's a good material for this? Has anyone made up their own? And how are curtains attached? - I don't have any tracks in place so wondering what others have done - thanks a million x Hi, I did my roof last year. It had started to have black mold grow on it. First gave it a scrub with sugar soap & rinsed well. Let it dry in the sun for a couple of days. Purchased some exterior solar guard type paint, full gloss UV resistant stuff. got 4 ltrs at Bunnings on special. Took the sail tracks off & used a roller, 2 coats. Put the tracks back on & sealed the pop rivets & tracks well with silicone so water doesnt come under & down. When I get to it will do the sides as well. If you look back through the thread you will see a post of how I restored my bed end canvas. looking back, if i did it again I would probably just get some of those pressure pack cans of paint & spray the canvas. It stiffens it a bit but it makes it very waterproof & much stronger. Got some tarps from Aldi when they had a clear out. they are silver on one side & blue on the other. They have sail ropes sewn in the edges & I have cut them up to make fly ends. Also I have enough to make a section for the side over the door etc as I dont have an annex. My curtains are on that white spring stuff that has hooks screwed in the ends. There are hooks attached to the bolts that mount the upright posts in the top to attach them to. Hope that all helps you.

Oh wow I can't believe I found this thread. I was beginning to think that we were the only people with an ACT camper. Ours is a 1975 model with a bed on one side, a lounge in the middle and the kitchen on the other side. I have to look into that gas strut idea.

I've noticed a lot of ppl on this remarking about lifting of the roof and how heavy it is. Take a look at this link. It might be of some use www.youtube.com/watch?v=HONOtjSwzfk

Hi Margaret Welcome to our Classic Caravans forum. The forum fosters vans from 1970 to 1980, & we welcome all comers interested in Classics. Just join up. (see Terms & Conditions in General) You are welcome to start your own thread in the “Hall of Fame”, there you can post images from a third party such as Photobucket, Tinypic, Flickr etc. Our sister forum Vintage Vans (1970 & earlier) have many duel members looking in, so ask any info about your project. Hi just joined the forum and am curious to know if anyone from these old threads is still on here? I just purchased an ACT cruiser camper not sure of the year but need some help with working on the support arms. Maybe just a hello from someone on here would be nice. Cheers Brian

Hi Brian,
I am in the same boat (or camper) as you. I have purchased a mid 70's ACT camper. Found this brilliant thread and am still digesting info. I am just about to order my gas struts and have a go at installing / testing with them. How did you go with your struts? You seem to have been the last one on this thread for quite a while.
See how things go..... Cheers Stefan

Hi Stefan, Welcome to the forum. This camper thread appears to have a fair rollover of owners, one suspects the newbies purchase a camper with the intent of a weekend's work to fix it up?? Most pop top/fold out units that have been in the weather will need a lot of work. Have a look at the image tutorial & start your own thread in the "Hall of Fame" Cheers Brent

I think the only present member with a Consort is "holistick" ( last time posted on the forum August 2015...so not sure if they're active now) but you'd have to register on the forum to send them a private message and they may have email alert to incoming messages. So go ahead and join up - it's pretty quick n easy, no dramas, doesn't cost anything except a few minutes of your time. Other than that most people have Cruisers ( Consorts seem to be much rarer ?? so a lot less info around )...but keep an eye out for holistick's next appearance ( they may eventually read this ). Best of luck. I recently got a Consort75, I have the same issue lifting the roof by myself and will be installing gas struts tomorrow. Fingers crossed I can lift the roof by myself cause I'm taking my 3 girls on a roadtrip and as they are 7 and under so won't be much help

Hey guys and girls.
What is the general consensus on the weight of the struts required? 500N or 300N, should I split the difference and get the 400N?
Looking for assistance, but not for it to lift itself.

Hi, I've had an ACT Consort for a few years now and had a wind up system put on when I first got it. It is SO much easier to put the roof up. I'll add a photo when I can figure out how to make it smaller.

Hi I'm a newbie. We also have a consort, we have had it for about 3 years. I am researching here hoping to find one with hydraulic lift or struts. Does anyone have some pics of their ACT Consort to share? I will try and upload some of our beauty tomorrow. Cheers.

Hi Janie, Welcome to the forum & we would like to see some images of your camper. The threads you are replying to are from March & July, mostly these members are not active, I doubt you will receive a reply. Cheers Brent
