Over the weekend I got my teeth stuck into the Vintage Caravan Forum(spying Ssshhh) and then found out that they have a facebook page - and a good one too. So I checked FB for a classic caravan page and the closest page I could find is a group (closed, members only) called My Classic caravan and there from overseas either Europe or England and have over 1400 members...! The Vintage page has 830 likes..!
I would love to see our group here start to grow and be more then just a place for the odd person to drop in to ask "what year or how old is my caravan". I think we should have a tour/trip reports section in the forum and starting now everytime we go away I will do a trip report with photo's, even if just an overnighter.
So lets talk.....
Cheers

Good idea. It would have to be run past MarkT as he owns both forums.

Great idea Lawrence ask Mark T if he wants a link to this forum on the Facebook group. I would suggest making it closed memembership to stop the spammers, appoint a few mods ( i do a few groups & it is painless just a notification then link click- if they have started on FB 1 month and joined 240 groups reject= spammers. After a while you will see requests that are friends with 1 or more existing member so instant aproval) The important part is to have a few lines about how anyone can join the group as is only closed to stop spammers/ gamers etc, folks playing FRB affiliates games need to do invites to progress levels or access a new game so joining groups & sending annoying invites to folks they do not know seems the norm with that sort! Example of 18foot sailing skiff FB group public view front page

But who is MarkT and how do you find him, as no member listed under that name ?

G'day lockyer,
MarkT is the nickname for Mark Taylor, who owns both the vintage forum and this classic forum. He is the 'admin' name showing on our home page (see the first "Terms and Conditions" section at top of page, and go over to the far right. Click on admin and his email address will show up). You'll also see he doesn't log into this forum very often, and leaves us to take care of ourselves, pretty much (which we do well! ) But it will have to be him that approves and sets up any F/B option for this forum.
cheers, Al.

I found a group that is focused on caravans aged more than 30 years old, so not really applicable to this site but a wider base to introduce chat and sourcing of ideas about older caravans. www.facebook.com/groups/1609313926004546/

Hi All,
No FB for me - but that's just me and I'm sure these days I am a minority but that's ok and I don't mind - each to their own.
If you can do it all on FB, why would you need a Forum as well.
Cheers, Des

The thing with Facebook is you can share things with your friends and relative's on a more personal level then you or I would on a public forum. Now I'm talking about my private page but a group page is open to everyone on the net and more so to people on Facebook and if you and I wish to see Classic Caravans grow and attach more and younger members then we should look at having a Facebook page. Here is a question - Why does Vintage Caravan Forum have a Facebook page ? Is it Facebook that has the Vintage forum going gangbusters ? On Facebook there is a page called Caravan Renovations and it has over 300 members and guess what type of vans these people are working on and recycling and restoring ? I will give you a clue it isn't vintage vans.....
All we seem to get is a revolting door of people who just want to know how old is my van or what year is my van, and next to none come back and half don't ever sign up. I have a fair idea that they get there info on there vans and then go to these other places on Facebook and start posting there restoring or recycling there never to come near us again.
But I could be miles off the mark.....
Spotted this this morning, if I didn't have to get home would have had a chat with them.
Wonder if they know of this forum...?
Cheers

Hi Lawrence,
Yeh that's all good and if that becomes the way of the forum world then that's fine too. I will cope.
One of the reasons I joined a 'forum' at all was because it wasn't 'face book'.
I don't do FB at all but that is just me. I'm happy just do the forum.
Cheers, Des

The interesting thing is the relativley fast turnover of platforms, in the late 90s early 2000s it was forums and Geositesor Yahoo groups, then MySpace became a thing, Facebook gained traction so MySpace seemed to specialise in the music scene before dying out. I find it funny that even though i have used Facebook since 2004 it says i joined in 2007, like all others. Twitter has taken over from the late 2000s Facebook and in many ways vastly superior as you do not have to mix family/friends with interests-passions. The last few years after Tumbler & Pintrest it appears that Instagram has captured the youngsters & many being able to monetise their wares. but again as soon as stuff gets popular they move on, spotify & some fledgeling sites the next thing for a while. For many it is about the Linkedin in the businessworld. What is clear is that whatever your cybre toe dipping it should always be about caveat emptor with identity and location due to many eyes mostly unknown outside of the keyboard. The legacy of Vintage Vans and this site is that within a rather short time all those screen names become real faces the caravans something one can toutch and feel. In many ways are what the real positives of the internet should be about, being like minded folks sharing knowlege and adventures in friendship from any location, be it in cyber or the real world 24/7. ( @8footerz for those twitterers lolz )

HI Gents Sorry for not replying earlier. I don't get onto the site as often as I use too.
The question about MarkT has been answered. If you want to contact him - do so through vintage vans.
Of all people I didn't think I would ever be on facebook. But there you go, I'm on there daily.
Catching up with this one or that one. It's a social thing for me and a FB page for Classic would likely be the same. More about social events than anything else.
Cheers and hope it works out for you Lockyer.

Very cool here in the Lockyer this morning..
Our forum will always be the Classic Caravan Forum and we will always chat, like we are now on the forum. Facebook does not take over from the forum OK, it is a source of gaining new members and it compliments the forum. Members here do not need to be on Facebook or even look at it, in other words nothing here changes - not a thing. The main benefit - I hope, is more people will find Classic Caravans on Facebook and see some of our pic's and trips etc and on the FB group page is a link to this forum, so when they ask how do I get into this a mod will direct them to the link, but in most cases they find the link to the forum themselves.
Please don't think that this forum will change or disappear if there is a Facebook page. I am a very private person and I don't think I would put up any photo's myself if we had a Facebook page/group but other members will( I hope)
Cheers

Mark gets inundated with 'correspondence' from others and he has a day job too so be patient with him.

It came in handy when my 42yo daughter I hadn't seen since she was 12 sent me an e-mail cause she found my name on FB. I recon a Classic van forum is for Caravans not FB Ted
