Hi all, I did an intro bizzo, so here is the "Escort". Not a wide load Escort ,and not an "hourly rate" Escort. It's regoed as a 1978 Escort. Looking at the VV site it's a little different to those pictured.(Same shape) It has an external access door for under bed storage at the rear I towed it home this morning and whilst it is in really good shape ,it needs Tyres ,lights ,gas certificate (we are ripping out the gas so not needed) And a general tidy up. I got her up to 100ks even with the "crusty" tyres Tows well...Even rounded up a grey nomad doing 90ks (obviously for fuel economy) cheers
hope this works.

Gidday davenq First I thought you were talking about one of those little 4cylinder thingies. Looks a bit of alright on the outside. Some inside pics would be good..
That VH should have no trouble towing it..

Basically using it ,...a few "local" trips (under 400ks) will probably use my Ess valiant as the tow car ,..but in March,..bit of a trip to Warwick probably with the ute.. (can fit more stuff in the back of a ute).. Moderators ,if you want to shift this post to "Hall of Fame" by all means....

wheel choice time being 4 stud 4x114.5 I had a wide range to chose from ,left to right original 12",14x6 black powdercoated mitsi mags, galant rims with hubcaps and trim rings, early lancer rims (with trim and centre cap) scorpion mags. The winner is The wife and I both liked these So new tyres tomorrow 185/65 x 14 they are load rated at 86 combined gives me 1.6t and the van is only 1.04 t atm so no problems . cheers

The inside looks good, no signs of any water leaks. It appears you have done really well.

Thanks Bobt ,yeh the missus is going to run up some burgundy curtains (her favourite colour) we are going to redo the stripes in Burgundy and black, Bit of a more sedate theme, my old traveleze was Carz themed ,the slide on was chequered flag themed ,this will be a "use it" ,setup. cheers oh ,..and lights . After I got new tyres fitted to the wrong offset mags, I stopped in at "shedfullofsh*t" Supercheap ,and thought yeh o.k. these lights look old enough(led replacements) and get home they are an exact copy ,..yay.. So obviously someone took a mold of the original light ,..WIN WIN for me... cheers to next time.

Nice condition for it's age, Great find!
Try and keep the gas, you should get some concessions because of the vans age, surely.

The best & apart from WA i think, only wayfor old school gas set up is to keep the van continuousley registered, from way back when, in NSW a certificate is mandatory, so age is not rellevant just compliance.

If un modified and in original as per manufactured condition you should not have a problem. A friend of mine had his new purchase, a 1974 millard pop top re-registered for the first time in eleven years and the only thing he had to change from inspection was the tyres (nearly twenty years old) and a running light lens. NSW Blue slip inspection then registered... no probs

That is correct you will need a gas certificate to get it rego'd, they do not check to see if the stove or fridge works but look for valves to each item so the gas can be turned off from inside and test for leaks and correct protection of pipes etc underneath
cheers

Queensland... Lived there for a good slog.(and still love the place) The same state that doesn,t allow 35 inch tyres or anything more than a two or three inch lift on a vehicle, no matter what engineering and engineer certifications you have.
The same state that says I must have "lifejackets" emblazoned across the front shelf of my tinny where the first thing you actually see is the bloody lifejackets!
There is no way I would be removing gas from my van because of what some inspector decides. Apart from protected/coated gas line from the bottle($45 to replace) and the shut off valves for the supply to each device inside the van, (which nearly every van I have seen already has) the only other thing I could see being needed is a two stage regulator($48) with test port(mounted at or higher than the valve on the bottle).
Maybe just the bottle and line disappearing from the draw bar during the rego process is all that is needed.

the final choice nissan n15 wheels ,..about 25mm further inboard than the scorpion mags ,.will use trim rings for a retro look, maybe weld some tabs to add hubcaps.. The more you look ,the more little things need to be done .
