This rear hatch image represents 5 hrs labour to get it to this stage. Two layers of fiberglass, to follow to fill all the holes. There were twenty holes in the front hatch, only 10 in this one. I reckon they laid in bed & shot flies with an air rifle? Notice how the front edge has rusted away, while the sides are perfect? the fiberglass will straighten this up.

Two layers of that stuff and you almost do not need the heavy rotting ferrous core material. At least if anyone wants to shoot mozzies with bb guns the sound will be dampened,

Mine was the same mustage but I had a new one made. It wasn't exactly the same as the corners weren't rounded, ut it works and all for $137. On a side note, after painting with the WeatherShield paint I felt the underside of the hatch, in the sun, and there was hardly any heat. I am impressed.

So these will be original collectors items then? Finished the glassing, now for the insulation & lining & reassemble to the van. After I paint the roof.

Waiting for this humidity to pass (cant paint the hatches) I've made an insect screen for the back of the fridge, also re-lined the cavity, now to get the fridge fitted & passed. The frame is held by one screw only, so cleaning & replacing the wire will be easier than the mess that was stapled there originally. IMAGE LOST Also decided to trying & finish the kitchen area with some inside cupboard lining. (very confusing image) Thats "Dicky Knee" in the foreground.

Above sink now finished: This little centre hole was originally covered by ply. I decided to make it a feature, recycled trim, lined. The white doors are from my plastics window supplier $15.ea With this surprise I decided to make the ply in two halves, still a tedious job, but happy with the outcome. The kitchen doors were very soiled but solid so I tried a liming wash, it wasn't quite right, so now we have a "dot" theme ( My precious thought I went dotty when I bought Vincent home) The fridge is fitted, but waiting for a grill in the front. The inside of one of the hatch's completed: Next thread has the before & after of the hatches.

One of the hatch's before reno: Two layers of fiberglass, etch primer, membrane primer, two top coats of membrane, lined with insulating wool & 6mm marine ply. All S/S metal threads, no rivets. All edges now straight. Geez after 5 months of work, I,m actually getting some things finished!!!!!!

And what does it weigh lol looks good mate I will actually weigh one tomorrow, the tin part was still very light but, I probably should have used 3mm domestic ply for lining instead of 6mm marine ply?? They will need a hand supporting under while winding up. At least they shouldn't blow off!!!

(the battery went flat & the connection fell apart, so will have to buy some more) I would estimate 6 kilo.

Is 3/16 now 6mm ply? My last boat i built using 2 layers of 2mm marine ply (plantation hoop pine)covered with 1 layer of 200gsm kevlar & painted, the deck was 1x2mm & a top face of 0.8mm airplaneply (beech) stained walnut on one and left honey on the other then clear varnished to give a great 2 toned look.

Hi Atefooterz, I didn't measure the actual dressed thickness, usually a bit less than the ticket says, I figuered being in the top of the hatch the lining would be subject to some moisture, & this was as thin as I could buy. (from the green shed.) I was surprised how the lining upped the weight. I planned to fit them today but my builder turned up un-announced to extend our shed. His off- sider was away so I became his gopher, guess nothing will happen with Vincent untill next week.

Have to have a bunk for the Inaugural Cotton Tree Bash so I have progressed to the front, got going then the builder turned up!! My support to the wool industry: The original curved ply is sitting back in place. (no image yet) An absolute b**ch to get back in, the mower fuel & matches were looking good at one stage (But I have changed all the frame at the front, so i guess its my fault? ?)

Are you really concerned about a little bit extra weight when you have a "little" 7 litre V8 in the tow car

Are you really concerned about a little bit extra weight when you have a "little" 7 litre V8 in the tow car Possibly no, but I can see 25+ litres to the 100km coming up EASILY Mustard the Mustang is on restricted rego, I doubt I can tow unless I pay the full $1000.00 rego fee? With restricted rego in Qld you cannot use the car for "transport", ie, you can't park the car & go get a coffee, it can only be driven in a 15km radius or a bona-fide club event. (In tassy you can drive 200 days in the year if you maintain a log book....this bl**dy nanny state of Qld So I will check with the insurer's.

It's worth living here just to access our club permit scheme. I had six vehicles on it for a bit (till my wife cracked 'em). For $70 bucks a year you can drive them anywhere, anytime you please ... tow anything for 45days a year (or double that for 90days). I can't emphasize how brilliant the scheme is as it allows you to actually drive your cars (most of mine are old citroens). seeya, Shane l. PS: 25L/100kms.... That's nothing, I reckon my crappy old v8 range rover will easily drink 30-35L/100kg (lpg) towing.

With the Nautilus being shown at Sanctuary Cove & Brisbane Shows for the next two weeks, Vincent is getting a new room. (7 x 15mtrs) The southern side will be clad & the northern will be open, (for now) the front faces east. We still may need a cover to stop paint/curtain fading. Rain halted play today & wrong materials delivered will delay completion until next week. A nice shady spot for car/caravan/camper washing & work area.

Hah.. the Jag is having a sleep over before going to Maryborough for parts. The owner bought two locally & wanted to store one untill he can pick it up later. Funny you picked a Fiat 500...always wanted one of those babies, & the latest model has done them proud.
