Looks awesome mate. Must admit as much as I love the Franklins, my 2nd choice would be a Viscount Royal π I would try staying a few nights,in extreme conditions, without air con in similar size of both... then decide!

Remember I'm from Vic - most extreme conditions mean cold down here π. Hottest we generally camp in is mid 30's which is no dramas, and never had AC when camping. Inverter and batteries run a large pedestal fan at the end of the bed and the Franklin has always vented the hot air well in the evenings, so will see if the Viscount does too. I can get the windows open further on the Viscount so expecting it to be fine.
We camp a lot in Winter, but plenty of blankets and the fur babies under the covers always keeps us warm. π

Still can't run it when I'm free camping. In the 3 years we've used the van, we've stayed on powered sites in caravan parks a total of 3 nights. All the rest is either free camping or unpowered sites at Caravan parks. The oven is a very effective heater as well. I know the safety police will say that's dangerous but with all the dust seals long gone on the windows, they all leak air like a pregnant dog anyway so there's always fresh air in the van. I may put a CO2 detector in the Visocunt as I plan to seal that up a bit better. May lash out on a diesel heater for that too though yet... π

We nearly froze to death last Easter down at Peterborough. Lol, I never thought of firing up the oven for warmth ( Iβve never used the thing)

It works great as a heater. Just light it and leave the door open a couple of inches. Used it heaps like this to take the chill off. π

I fitted a detector in Vincent due to the old fridge, it was only $50., for a hard wire type, apparently there are battery types out now.

Thanks. Will be getting a good gas HWS for the Viscount. Will DIY like I do everything else. No gas certificate required for a caravan in Vic. π

Yeah, the Viscount will be fairly upmarket compared to the Franklin.
Finished the bunks off today for the new owner. Did a quick video.

I don't like the red clocks chances of making it through the night, if the top bunk is occupied??? Love that upholstery. Security for bed poles:

Well, a celebration is in order tonight! All the painting is finished! πππ The last bit to do was the back of the van - by far the longest slog of the lot. Including removal of the siliconed up window, cleaning all of that, making the windows work again, resealing the window and reinstalling it, resealing the back J moulds, prep and paint I've spent about 4 solid days on it I think. I knew it would be hard work so I procrastinated for a long time. Anyway, once the new paint was on, the bum looked too white to me, so I got a little creative (and I'm not at all that sort of person). Must say I'm absolutely stoked with the results. π C0F75466-2A50-43E8-9462-2113A0EB928E by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr B7991BD4-8DB1-49FF-8DF4-CB3B76E098D4 by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr E8CE78A1-9F0C-4B26-B6D0-C7272B99983A by Gavin Gregory, on Flickr The 'Arrow' badge was just a print out of the word, cut out carefully with a craft knife, then I sprayed the back with some spray adhesive and stuck them on. Painted over everything then peeled the letters off. A few touch uos were required where the orange bled under the masking but it came out ok. π

Thanks, π
It's really lifted the whole van - It won't look like an old dunga being towed around now, when someone overtakes it, they'll know it's been loved and it's being towed around because the owner wants to, not because they have to (which is how I felt towing it sometimes before I got around to the outside) π

Well, tis gone... π’
It's at a mates place waiting on transport now, but it will never grace my driveway again. Bit sad to tell you the truth....
Hope the new owner enjoys it as much as I have.

Sorry to hear mate I'd probably feel the same way letting the Scenic go.
Time to start having fun with the Viscount though. One day at a time you'll get there

Well Well Well.... My new old new old Franklin, overhauled by Snoops now has a new home in Tropical North Queensland. In transit from Vic to Qld the door handle somehow managed to pop off and Iβm in the process of trying to work out how to fix that. Itβs rained for three weeks here and Gav - youβll be pleased to hear it is water tight. Got a safety certificate today - breezed through it. Getting a gas certificate Monday, then rego in QLD. Itβs already got new curtains - my wife Alyssa wastes no time. First run will be in three weeks to Airlie Beach. Anyone know if there are any original Franklin door handles kicking around? Iβd love to put an original on there.

In transit from Vic to Qld the door handle somehow managed to pop off and Iβm in the process of trying to work out how to fix that. I don't know what your lock is like but this is what we did to repair ours: Our van had a multitude of different screws that eventually chewed out any holding power. I wanted to preserve the original lock so I used S/S metal threads facing from the inside with acorn nuts on the exterior.
