Well Friday was very productive 027 - rust-proofed all the welding and drawbar 027b - inserted a timber block (above the door) so that I can screw into the wall the rail for the awning and the roof-racks to hold solar pannels.

G'day Ted, I can only assume you must live in a place that gets 18 hours of daylight each day. Surely no-one can achieve what you've achieved in a standard day! I'm exhausted just reading about it!! It's an amazing effort, and congratulations on a fantastic job! cheers, Al.

G'day Al,
Well Mick is a bit of a slave driver. He had us starting at 7am and we packed up tools with the aid of spotlights.
Although on Saturday night we did work for an hour with the spotlights.
I took yesterday off just to recoup.
Today I had to replace some of the timber framing in the rear cupboards (over rear window ) and replace the panelling to match the new stuff on the walls. Although I did replace the bottom panelling with white to match the ceiling.
Wednesday & Thursday I have to work so I'll do the front cupboards on Friday.

Well progress has been very slow with having to go to work and all. I've been concentrating on top cupboards that have to be attached to roof before roof cladding. Mick's gone fishing up north Qld but cane up with great suggestion of attaching timber 2x1 rails to ceiling, then after roof is back on, sxrew cupboards to the rails. ( I'll post photos later)

Well I've spent a week working on remodelling the top cupboards on both side walls as well as the sink, fridge & stove cupboards. After making a cardboard model of the shower cubicle I came to the realisation that where I wanted to put it wouldn't leave enough room to use the stove and get easily into the cubicle. Then on Saturday Mick came along and in a couple of hours we pulled out the new cupboards and installed the shower cubicle where the Fridge and stove were. 032 - So from this 033f - to this ... and I'm going to use, what used to be the Kitchen window, in the shower cubicle. Tomorrow I start on the new Kitchen

Does that mean you had to pull out the new cupboards that you built? Looking great so far.

Does that mean you had to pull out the new cupboards that you built? Yep it does - now I need to find a new sink that's no more than 580mm long & 480mm wide.

I suggest you get a laminate benchtop that size and then install a small drop-in sink. Most pathroom / kitchen places should have a decent range of sinks to choose from. You could try "renovation boys" and "national apollo" (both in sydney) to start with. Cheers

Thanks I'll check them out. I need to pull my finger out and get all the top cupboards redone so that I can get the roof skin back on the van. Seven weeks to rego due and I've got to paint it before the windows go back on. I'm starting to think that the old paint job will be the only thing that's original left.

Well progress has been slow. 033 - I had to relocate the kitchen to the door side.
033b - new kitchen location
033c - kitchen with air-con
033d - Shower, w/robe and cupboards opposite
033e
Only 3 weeks till rego is due and I have to get the tall cupboards done before I can put the roof skin and windows back on the van. Everything else can be done afterwards. Hopefully, next weekend I can get the roof and skylights on.

G'day Ted, Nothing better than a rego deadline to keep you focussed! The cupboards look great!! And you've done particularly well in getting the curve of the roof on that bit of timber stuck above the kitchen overhead cupboards. You obviously put a lot of thought into the work you do. Well done!! cheers, Al.

Thanks Al.
Got a bit done today.
By Friday I'll probably be putting the ply sheeting on the cupboards then fastening them to the roof ply and walls.
I'm hoping that Mick can help me put the roof cladding on this weekend and get the holes cut for the skylights. Skylight frames in and waterproofed.
Does one have to have the windows in for a van to pass rego? I still have the window holes boarded up on the inside so that I can spray paint the outside. If I have to I'll put in about 6 screws per window, unsealed, just for rego then pull them out to paint the van.
Anyway I still have a lot to do before its finished

Nothing better than a rego deadline to keep you focussed!
cheers, Al. [/quote] Well I'm back!!!! and I made the rego deadline with three days to go. I got all the cladding on the roof, got all the lights in & working and had to put the windows in place (I didn't put any window sealant as I have to take all the windows back out to paint the van.[/p] 034
034b - I didn't put the trim around the edge between the walls and roof (ran out of time).
The guy inspecting went over it with a fine tooth comb. He checked the hand brake three times and even looked in the master cylinder to see if there was any brake fluid, checked wheel bearings. When he commented on the lack or trim around the walls, I told him i'm getting it ready for painting and he seemed OK with that and then checked the lights.
034c - Well then he passed it and now its back to cleaning the trim and then to the internal stuff before I paint it.

Al Hi,
That's right but I do want to use the van soon. We've been thinking of Tassie somewhere between Nov & March next year so with work taking up my time I cant see myself taking time out.

Well I'm still working on internals. I've almost finished all the electrics (12v & 240v). I blew up my old 300w inverter - need to get a new one. Cupboard frames are ready for linings but I'm leaving till last as I've got a bad habit of changing things.
035 - I did finish making the roof-racks for the solar panels.
035b
Now I'm connecting the gas hot water system and all the plumbing to the shower and kitchen.

Hey Ted,
Glad to see that you are back into it mate. I was missing your posts.
How much do you reckon those solar panels weight mate? They do look good though!
Cheers, Des

Hey Ted, Glad to see that you are back into it mate. I was missing your posts. How much do you reckon those solar panels weight mate? They do look good though! Cheers, Des Des Hi. The only thing that stops me working on the egg is paid work. Things have been happening slow for a long while with the wiring, plumbing and everything else problem is that I keep changing things around if I don't like it. I still haven't put the panelling on the cupboards as I need to hide the wiring and other stuff. I've had the solar panels on a few caravans over the years. The 4 panels (40w each) are old, I bought them in 1984 but they still work well - I get 12amps on a sunny day & 1.8amps on a cloudy day. The solar panels plus the roof racks I've made weigh 38kg. When I had the walls apart I inserted timbers to support the weight. I started covering the cushions for the lounge which converts to another double bed. Anyway photos will happen soon. Regards Ted
