Hello, I bought a wedge shape franklin caravan about six months ago. 16ft with a front hydrolic lift, with 12 volt electric motor and hand pump. I am trying to find out about the model. The front drops for towing but you can still use the rear for eating and cooking ect because it is full size at the back. Has anybody got any information about these types of vans? I have seen another one from a distance just north of grafton., but couldn't turn around and go back to see what they might know about the type. I want to paint it and put a new franklin sticker on it but i dont know if you can still get them. The sticker is the pointer type.

G'day aranta, and welcome to the forum! ;D Not a lot is known about this particular model made by Franklin. Forum member hughdeani may know a bit more about them. Nobody (apart from you, that is) has shown one on the forum before, as far as I can remember. If you bought your van about six months ago, then you obviously didn't buy the one that was listed on ebay at the end of September: www.ebay.com.au/itm/150901694794?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 You can click on the photo showing in the finished listing, and all the other photos will be revealed. The seller said the VIN (ie. the chassis number) was Y1878, and the letter Y appears to be the numbering system used in 1978. Can you tell us what the chassis number is on yours, please? If you hang about and wait for hughdeani to read this thread, he might be able to shed a bit more light on the subject for you. On very rare occasions, the Franklin stickers show up on ebay, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting, if I were you (I bought my "collectable" Franklin sticker a few years ago on ebay). I reckon you would only get them by having them printed by a vinyl printer somewhere. cheers, Al.

Hi Al and Arunta, Yes its a Franklin Nova,4 models were made,2 16footers and 2 18 footers.Production began in late 1978 until Franklin closed in 1981. All chassis numbers started with Y I believe, and 150 were made. Hope this is of some help to you. Cheers hughdeani

Hi Gus, Unfortunately they were ahead of their time, and anything out of the "norm" was lost on conservative caravanners! IMHO I reckon they were fantastic, towed like a dream(even better than standard Franklins) Such a pity they never caught on. Enjoy yours! Cheers hughdeani

POHMAD the parts issue is like how long is a piece of string! Some parts may be common to other models and or makes where as others may involve restoration or replication designed to empty pockets. Some times adapt may be the better way. Sign up and create a thread with specifics and the collectors around the place may have suggestions. The days of local places holding pre circa 1990 spares has alas past.

Heard on the radio that ARROW Caravans in Brisbane is closing down, now there is a very old firm that had some Classic parts.
