Howdy all, I'm just about over the Flu, so we are getting out of Perth at Sparrow Zip tomorrow. The Coaster is fully loaded and sitting on the front lawn ready to go..... Our lovely Photobucket won't copy or paste photos at the moment, direct links only available, Sorry !!! i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee197/kiwijim/Crusin%20in%20the%20Coaster%20july%20%20%202012/readytoroll04-07-2012002.jpgThe trailer has had a few mods, like an eye level stop light and some fancy decorations added by the Co-Pilot....... i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee197/kiwijim/Crusin%20in%20the%20Coaster%20july%20%20%202012/readytoroll04-07-2012001.jpgShe has also been busy shoving pretty flowers on the side of the bus !!! i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee197/kiwijim/Crusin%20in%20the%20Coaster%20july%20%20%202012/readytoroll04-07-2012003.jpgOur plans are, we more or less,..... don't have any. We are crossing the Nullarbor and will take around 10-15 days to do it. We will camp around Port Augusta and await my Brothers arrival from Brisbane. After that we could head down to Vic, or if too cold, head North to Alice and out to the Rock, still cold, but should be rather pleasant During the day, time will tell. Pretty Pics to come in a week or three.( IF The Bucket allows ) kiwijim ;D

G'day there Mate, At this stage I don't know how far we will wander, A lot will depend on how the Coaster goes, after all she's only 7 years newer than the Thomson, but you never know, we have been known to pop up on Ones door step. ;D ;D ;D We have a total of three Months travel time before the Co-Pilot has to return to Perth for on-going Diabetes treatment. I'll try and send as many pics as I can, but as we hope to spend some time exploring the Nullarbor, it may be that nothing will appear on this Tread until we get with-in range again , over the border in South Aussie. Cheers kiwijim ;D

Howdy Guys, Well, We've been on the road for the 4 days now, The Coaster is going like a dream, not the fastest thing around, but we're not in any hurry, wouldn't want to be with an average speed of 75 KPH. The first night out, we camped in a gravel pit about 200 clicks from Perth, not much sleep as the Flamin Train went past every couple of hours, and the Trucks never stopped all night. The following night we spent in a fantastic 72hr Camp Site about 5 km off the highway, called Karalee Rock, No 323 in the Camps 5 Travelers Bible, Here there was plenty of shade, a deep drop toilet with running water from the dam near-by, tons of good flat areas to stop on and plenty of concrete fire places, There were only a couple of other vans there when we arrived, and that's the way it stayed, a place I would recommend to anyone who wants peace and quiet, there's 5km of gravel road to get to this site but, very smooth and no trouble for the Bus...... The following day we moved on and made a brief stop at the Roadside Memorials for the three Truckers who were killed in the Bush fire on Great Eastern Highway 5 years ago, I was very pleased to see that these Memorials have been looked after and there are now permanent plaques placed there in their memory....... I did notice that while we were there, every Trucker who drove passed blew his horn as a mark of respect. Winding up, we are now sitting in Norseman, there's a thunder storm over head, it's bucketing down and the temp is trying to reach 9deg, we were meant to tackle the big "Sand Patch" today but, with this weather happening, we are staying here until tomorrow Monday, then after getting fuel and supplies, we are off. Next report, and maybe some Dash photos will probably be in a couple of weeks, Cheers all, kiwijim

Howdy Guys & Gals, Sorry there has been no more pic's of our travels, That Photo bucket just refuses to allow me to post anything !!! At present we are sitting in a small town called Crystal Brook in the Northern part of South Australia, I think this place would be better named Frozen Brook, The weather is overcast with light rain and now, just after lunch time, the temperature is nudging around 8-9 deg. I suppose it doesn't matter where you are this time of year, it's cold, but this temp has got knobs on it. We will be staying here (with the Heater going 27/7 until next Tuesday, then we will decide which way to go, I doubt it will be any further South, We are in two minds to head up to the Alice and then out to the rock, there again the Alice has been having below freezing temps over night, we may well head back West and try again in the late Spring. Has anyone got any idea why that stupid Photo bucket won't allow pictures to be posted with-out a small box appearing to tell me the photo has been moved !!!!! Cheers from the frozen kiwijim

Hello Kiwijim, The weather here in coastal central Qld is reasonably pleasant at present - 15-16 overnight, 22-24 day time - It's only a couple of days travel away, but well worth the effort.

Howdy there Gav, It's no wonder you took a quick Pic and shot through at that temp, It's kind of what I was thinking, Hell of a long way to see a hunk of rock and we're quiet cold enough here thanks. I would be heading up your way, Wickedcat, if it wasn't for the electronics (due to the cold) playing up in the Coaster, it's so cold down this way the batteries are going flat after a couple of days, I have to keep starting the bus and running it for 5-10 min to recharge them, and that doesn't go down well with the rest of the park residents. I think we will have to get the bus fired up once more and turn it off when we reach Perth again. "Damn" I hate this cold. Cheers kiwijim

gidday there yo kiwi fella I thought you were heading east to see some real snow! What happened Surely being a real kiwi the minor chills being experienced in the north bit of SA would be no where near as cool as it could get in some of the loverly places in the long white cloud. I take it you are free camping... a solar panel on the roof would help Could be worse.. .. could be snowing looks like uas is safe for another day ;D

howdy there, Young Bobt, ;D ;D ;D Nup, not free camping at the moment, too flamin cold ere' we're using the power from a caravan park, This Ol' kiwi has lived in the Hot West for to many years to handle the cold again, never realised how cold it could get, When we were young it didn't worry us to sleep in a room with ice forming on the inside of the windows, today this old Bird like some creature comforts.

G'Day Jim, Soldier on buddy, don't let the cold get to ya. A wee bit of brandy or scotch in your cuppa will soon take the chill out ha ha ha. ( Depending on how many cuppas ) Hope the weather changes for you ( probs only a couple of degrees ). How has the bus handled thus far, I read the cold has been causing issues with your electrics Stay warm Regards Teflon

G'day there teflon, Mate, I've tried all the lubrication in the cupboard, Beer,Port,Oyzo, and a range of wines, Great for the throat and sure keeps one warm initially but, the wearing off effect is a bit hard to handle. ;D I think our biggest mistake was coming on this road trip at this time of the year, another few months time would have made all the difference. The Coaster is still plodding along at a max speed of 75-80 kph It's running alright but, a hell of a thing to keep on the road, being so high and narrow, it just loves it when a Semi races past, should have called her "Waltzing Matilda" Electrical problems are the biggest worry, low batteries after a cold night, and fluctuating voltage on charge is also causing a pain. The recon motor is puring like a kitten, hasn't used any oil and the oil is as clean as the day I put it in. if only it had a diesel 6 cyl motor, I would be really happy, this 4 pot petrol motor has knobs on it, it's pulling it's heart out and getting no-where. So we are giving this trip a miss and returning home, I'll be selling the Bus and investing in another van .....Probably another Classic. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers kiwijim

But sometimes knowing when to fold 'em is just as important as pressing on. Maybe you need an Ansair Flxible Clipper bus.... 6 cylinder diesel. Mind you they stopped making them in ... 1955 www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw9BYu6BqJoAll the best Atog

Hi Jim, Thats a shame mate, but Atog's right, you got to know when to fold em. Shouldn't take you long to sell given the fantastic reno's you have done to her. But the next classic is what I am waiting to see in your driveway. You and the wife take care, will see you when you get back. P.s the viscount reno is on hold till after the long weekend in october. Alison has a few ideas on where she want cupboards, beds etc. stay Safe Regards Teflon

Howdy Teflon & Gang, At present we are sitting in a Caravan Park in Coolgardie W.A. We've been on the return journey from South Aussie for the last 9 days, bush camping and having our share of very cold weather, a couple of days of rain and then we hit heavy fog on the Eastern side of Nullabor Road-house, we crawled through that alright, then came into fine weather with a strong tail wind, "Surprise Surprise" the Coaster topped 100 clicks p/h. mind you, that was the one and only time. Yep, the Coaster is going to be sold on our return alright, another Coaster shot up behind me on a hill today, over-took and they waved to us as they disappeared out of sight in a couple of seconds, I think they must have had a very good Diesel motor under the floor in that one. Yes Teflon, keep looking at the front lawn and there could be another Classic appear there very soon. ;D ;D ;D I have collected heaps of Pic's on our trip but, until I get that Photo Bucket to do the right thing there's not much going to appear here, bad words will be spoken to the Management of that "Forwarding Agency" upon our return, Cheers kiwijim
