Thanx peterg, I really appreciate your interest. As many other members would tell you, its really nice knowing someone shares the same interest & passion.
It all started a yr or so ago when we were invited to go on a small trip away with some friends who have caravans but the best we had was an 8 man tent. At first I wasnt to egar because we have 2yr old twins who take up alot of my energy plus a business to run ect ect ect....
Then the wife got a hold of the idea....... & that was it!!
"I'M STUCK WITH THE KIDS, WE DONT DO ANYTHING ANYMORE, ALL YOU DO IS WORK, WE HAVENT BEEN AWAY IN AGES" BLA, BLA, BLA.......
So off we went (to keep the peace) & to my amazement the kids had a great time, the wife had a great time......& you guessed it, so did I.
As soon as we got back I started looking for a caravan that would suit & this is it. It was compact enough not to be a handful & believe it or not, it's actually a 5 berth (1 x dbl bed, 2 x bunks & table converts). It was the only one that I found (or looked into) that was setup this way & after all my research, found it for sale only 10 mins from home......it was meant to be ;D Of course its a Franklin but there was no other branding on it to show what model.
I checked high & low, on internet & ebay for something listed that might lead me in the right path, even searched Franklin website & history......but nothing
Eventually gave up & excepted her as a FRANKLIN.......until I had finished her & had it parked on the front lawn when someone was impressed enough to stop, knock on my door offering to buy it
. Of course that was no plan for me but he'd informed me that his dad had one just like it & believed it was called the "FRANKLIN SNIPE". When I setup insurance for it, they also said it was known as the SNIPE according the glass guide but I cant say thats what it is for sure.
Anyway 9mths of effort later....I think it came up pretty good
From body work to the brake lines, there was not much that didnt get a makeover. You cant see it in the photos but theres a refridgerated heater/cooler under the bench between the stove top & the fridge, instant hotwater unit under the sink, a sub woofer speaker under the bed plus 8 other speakers (which is an over kill, I know but I had them sitting around in the shed), wall mounted 21' led tv with builtin dvd & the coffee color wall above the bench top is splash back glass.
I know most people who start a rebuild will keep it original but I was after something that had a bit more of a modern feel......but thats just me.
Here are more shots of progress & if anyone would like some tips, I'd be glad to help
....Cheers GMAN
PS..enjoy rebuilding your project peterg ;D
The new panelling & insulation continues
Then had to custom make the overhead console for the radio
Then the kitchen cabinets
Once I was happy with inside....started the outside
Added some led taillights & mudflaps
Wheels & clearance/indicator lights
And once I finished 10 weeks of bodywork, off to the paint shop
At the paint shop
And this is how she came back ;D
All she needed now was abit of grafitti & badging...
Recap - from old to new!
All thats left is to fit the tv on the bracket & waiting on the spare wheel cover which is getting FRANKLIN print on it just for a nice touch. Now I just need to use it & hopefully enjoy (maybe I'll leave the wife & kids at home for that.....could you imagine!!).
Finally, as a new comer to the forum for only a short time, I'd like to say that I'm glad to be apart of it & share a fun interest / passion with some really nice people you"ll most likely never meet!
GMAN
