Hi all, seeking some advice please. We’ve removed the j-moulds on the roof and old silicone with a wire disk back to bare aluminium and removed any old paint that would come off easily with acetone. If we prime the exposed aluminium ready for painting what is the best preparation for all the existing paint that won’t come off easily with acetone? We don’t want to have to persist with the acetone if not necessary given those areas have been very stubborn. Thanks in advance.

Hi melba75, Congratulations on your prep work so far, sounds like you are leaving nothing to chance. Aluminium needs an etch primer for the paint to adhere. I would seek out a reputable paint shop, preferably one that sells automotive paint, but most paint shops will offer the right advice. The existing paint needs to be taken back as far as possible with wet & dry sanding papers. if you can post some images, that's gold. See this link
Cheers.
