Hi Classic vanners Some info that may be of interest regarding Newlands caravans. Extract from Glass's Dealer's guide _- Caravan and Campervan Values Dec. '88- Feb. '89. "Serial numbers on the draw-bar are allocated consecutively to all vans. First chassis nos 1974 5000, 1975 6000, 1976 6900, 1977 7700 , 1978 16575N. " Cheers boblor

Hi Boblor
The chassis number dates you posted seem correct. The reason that the number had an N added to it in 1978 was that the vans where being made in Ballarat by Coronet by that stage as Newlands went into receivership in 1977. The N was probably added more for the production line than anything else as both brands were being built side by side.
Regards
David

Although I am unable to locate a chassis number on the chassis, the Gas Installers plate has the following info on it:- DATE FITTED:- 17-4-79 Chassis No. 17400 Licensed Installer No. 1785 If I ever find the Chassis number on the draw bar, it will be interesting to see if it has the "N" included. There is no chassis number on the licence/registration papers (very unusual) and there is a notable similarity in the date and the chassis number on the Gas Installers plate, so I am wondering if there was no chassis number stamped, and the gas fitter used the day and month of the date, followed by "00" ?? The next van he did that day might be Chassis No. 17401, and the first van the following day, 18400 etc. etc. Just a thought. There is also a RVAA plate on the van, next to the entrance door, No. 006338

G'day morrie, and welcome to the forum! ;D
Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of information about the Newlands brand, so we have to rely on what's posted in this thread above. It looks like the 'N' was added after Newlands was taken over by Coronet, which was at the end of 1977. I presume the Newlands vans were no longer built after Coronet itself closed down in about 1978.
I guess that means that your van is most likely a 1978 model?
Sorry I can't be any more help than that.
cheers, Al.
