:)hello cc'ers. like it or not and thanks to Atogs request for posts, here are some of my family snapshots. me at kingscliff beach caravan park (Council owned) This park will be upgraded sooner rather than later and all sites on the dune edge will be revegetated. The best part about this site is that the Bowls Club is only 50m north, still on the beachfront, and they shine their spotlights out to the ocean all night, highlighting the waves. Good view from their bistro too. me visiting at the latest vintage van outing just across the border at Tallebudgera Creek caravan park (Council owned). Only stayed 1 night (not long enough) - nice vans - nice people - nice cars. if you travel to this park, you can view the border ranges at sunset or you can sit on the beash at sunrise or you can look across the creek to Surfers through the haze and here is me at the Capricorn Caves at Rockhampton with the Millard a few years ago.(this is a long way from north east n.s.w.) This is a great place to stop at if you are on your way to Atog's Cairns. Lucky you - i had some more but can't find them. bye phil p.s. i modified the title in case someone wants to start a new post "where to go in etc. etc. etc."

thanks Atog. Got some bad news, though. I found some more!!!! We went to Lake Ainsworth van park (for one night) at Lennox Head. This park is a Big 4 and has a tea coloured lake as well as the ocean and is, i believe, about to be renovated. Great park but i didnt take photos of the site cause i was too busy hanging on to the oz tent in the "howling northerly". My site had a magnificent view right up the middle of the lake - to the north!!! So this is a shot of the parking area on the esplanade. Below is a shot taken from the lookout above Lennox Head. and next is a shot taken from the top of the walking track looking south to Skennars Headland that'l do. Phil. p.s. i also added more pics to the first post.

I thought i would add this photo, it is only 1 hour north of the border into south east queensland. If you are travelling in the Gold Coast Hinterland then the showgrounds camping at Canungra is great. It is on the road to the national park about 2km out of town. Canungra also has everything you would need for supplies. Under the trees on a hot day In the creek on the same hot day Actually, i tagged along to the V.V.ers xmas bash. It was only an hour from home. They are a great bunch. Had a good time - stayed 2 nights - took the kid, grandkid (and their dog). Cheers - phil

g'day KiwiJim. you shouldn't encourage me. These photos are a long way south but i know you will see them. I took them last year before i joined the forum. I am sure there was a national park campground just back a bit from here. This was beside the Blowhole and Arch on the way to Port Arthur. Camping would be somewhere nearby. We were motelling it. If you see any berries and icecream being sold nearby, be sure to have some. On the east coast there is a great looking park just south of Swansea overlooking Freycinet. But - be sure to check with Murray - i will next time. And all the best in your retirement. Phil

Back Again. Did a couple of overnight stays recently. They were at least 10 mins from home. This is at "hidden valley" near Tyalgum. It is owned by the Southport School (gold coast) and caters for "educational or fitness" conferences mainly. I attended a "function" of sorts. Anyway, the buildings include dormitory-cabins-fantastic kitchen-large dining room and the camping fee was very reasonable. (caretaker lives on site) Below is 2 photos joined together. This storm caused 2 large fires by lightning strikes that burnt mainly bushland. But wait---there's more--- This is Tyalgum Showgrounds (unpowered sites)---powered are available. I went to see a rock concert under mount warning and an evening sky above the border ranges. These showgrounds are the best accomodation if attending "tyalgum music festival" or "tyalgum diggers day rodeo" or "wolumbin festival" or next years "rockin4thekidz". till later. Phil.

Hi Phil
Looks like a nice spot to camp. Bad luck about the excessive drive you had to endure to get there. Just the sort of thing I l seem to be able to cope with.
Great photos

In the far north east corner of N.S.W. is this little park. It is about 20 minutes north of Kyogle on the road to Murwillumbah. There are some powered sites which are all grassed (slippery in the wet) with pets allowed. The amenities are great with a camp kitchen and on site bottle shop/cafe/general store in one. There is a fantastic swimming hole/waterfall a very short drive down the road (no photos cause of the wet weather). Also very close to the Border Ranges National Park and also about 20 minutes to "Nimbin". You may notice some old vans - actually, Louise and I tagged along to another vintage van outing. Here is the 'classic' amongst the 'vintage' Great bunch of people - i would recommend any classic in the same area as a vintage outing to 'tag along' and check out their vans. Cheers. Phil and Louise

Hello again. We found another place to visit just to the east of Grafton. Turn off at Maclean and take the Brooms Head Road and travel past the numerous Kangaroos and a few Coastal Emus till you reach Brooms Head Caravan Park. We spent the labour day weekend of 4 heavily showered days.Tried to use my new outdoor back kitchen. You have probably seen one of these but have you seen one totally waterlogged and blowin in the wind. Other vanners rugged up against the weather. Peering over the backyard fences. Mondays over and now the place is empty. The park is in 3 sections, the flatter grassed area against the beach where i was and another on the point. Looking down on the point camp area which only has unpowered sites. . Well, wednesday came, our time was up and i was over the leaky van, so we began packing up. Then the sun came out so we moved to the 3rd area, a grassed area up above the point. Thats more like it. Gotta go now - more to come (sorry) Phil & Louise.

Hey Phil
Top photos mate But you didn't really show the lagoon.
Was in Broome's Head in the 70's and it is one of the spots I will see again when I cross the NSW border.
The rock lagoon When we were there 1973 - The lagoon (low tide only) was full of pilchards that had been trapped by the dropping tide. The water warmed up too much and they all died. The locals were down there filling up every available container ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D There was even a bloke on a Fergy tractor loading up plastic containers before tripping off home to come back for another load. It was a sight to see. ;D ;D ;D ;D
On the way into Broome's there are a few tracks down to the beaches. We took one and found the beach littered with cuttlefish HUGE Cuttlefish The things must have been 18 inches long....... OK maybe 12 But they were monstrous.
Will get back there when we are on our trip around the block
Cheers Atog

I'm back with more photos of Brooms Head and surrounds. While the weather was bad, we decided to check out the nearby national parks for caravaning. This is Lake Arragan and its exit to the ocean. and this is Red Cliff beachside camping. and this is the marker so i get my favourite site. . and Red Cliff taken from campsites at Grey Cliff. camp here with the wild life. Then it was time to check out Sandon (at last some photos for Wahroonga) The other side of Sandon River This side of Sandon River Some Van Sites. An Aboriginal Sacred Place. A typical house on the road in. and this is the road in I preferred Red Cliff and Aragan (they are basically the same area) to Sandon possibly because it wasn't what i was expecting. Gotta go again. Gotta find those photos of the lagoon after the sun came out. ( And the rain and the wind - no hail - went away ) Cheers Phil and Louise.

Thanks guys and gals. I'm back with the final episode of Brooms Head. So the weather became kind of kinder, the sun came out and we moved to the hill top. This is looking toward Sandon from the lookout This is looking north from the hilltop sites. The building whose roof you can see is the Snack Shack - excellent burgers etc. looking north from the lookout - over the lagoon. And this is the lagoon at low tide. Tide coming in. Unpowered van sites overlooking the lagoon. and finally, aerial shot of a rocky cliff. So if you're travelling through Maclean, visit the"pot belly pie" shop and head out to the Brooms Head Van park. (same price as "national park camping with vehicle") Also, Woody Head at Iluka is a great national park camping ground for vans and with great amenities but we haven't been there for a while. We havent been to Wooli or Minnie Waters, also east of Grafton. Cheers. Phil & Louise.
