I responded to this on your other post a little while ago I'm putting meranti ribs across the roof with timber blocks along the top of the wall, they'll act as spacers and anchor points for the capping for the plywood ceiling to slot into. At this stage I'm planning on adding the roof cladding last so I can put insulation on top of the ceiling ply and fasten overhead cupboards in from above. Cheers Shelley

Sorry ribs - beams, not sure what they're called - the lengths of timber that go across from one wall to the other.
Between them, I'm not sure at this stage if I'll do curved timber or if I just do spaced out blocks of wood as spacers and fastening points. I'll assess that once I'm ready to go.

Oh yeh, now i sort of get what what your doing.
Keeping original roof and insulation? Ply on first or after roof is instaled? Just thinking with the bending of roof if ply is on before hand might want to stretch the sheets out of place

At this stage, I'll put the walls up, then the beams/ribs across the roof to connect them as well as the front and back framing. Then the ply lining attached to the roof beams. I'm hoping to then get overhead cabinetry done so I can fasten from above, then insulation (polystyrene sheets on top of the ply), then cladding. I may reassess when I get up to that stage, the hatch hole may trip me up.
I can't keep the original ceiling and insulation, it was wrecked and has already gone on the bonfire!

You seem to be in a similar place to where I was when I first decided to rebuild my 10' 6" franklin Mini. Was there a frame? ---No What's the aluminium channel running around the edge for?--- It joins the roof to the walls How do you glue polystyrene? Etc ---Carefully unless you want to dissolve it This link to the story of my discoveries may help you. vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/11758/life-times-1969-franklin-miniJim edit to add. I haven't looked at the linked thread for some time. It appears the photo links are broken. I'll look into the problem and see what I can do. Further edit to add 18th May: Issue with photos all fixed J

I've just been reading through your thread Jim, I managed to locate a few of the images on google to see your adhesive results and many of the other photos but I'm really wanting to see your completed chassis if you have any pics please? Ours needs a new drawbar and z channel and boilermaker hubby is debating whether to build new or use the old and replace what needs to be replaced. The rest of it seems very solid and bloody heavy! My concern is that we don't have a very flat surface to construct a new one and I don't want to over capitalise, I have a fair idea of what I'm up for already Great thread by the way, hope you're able to get your pictures back on.

I'm still working on the problem. so far, with no success. But I found if you right-click on the placeholder icon where the pic should be and choose 'open in new tab' the picture will open for you.
I can't seem to be able to post pics here as well.

Our chassis on the franklin was ok. Just rusty. Had it sand blasted and powder coated, and has came up ok, obviously pitted and what not, but alot better than taking to it with a drill and wire brushes and flap disks etc..
As this will push the build budget back and timming i am much happier starting with a decent canvas.
Now for new running gear..... Axle, brakes, wheels etc.

Also on thinking, i wonder if it would be a good idea to insulate front and rear walls of the franklins, since they never seemed to do back then.

Also on thinking, i wonder if it would be a good idea to insulate front and rear walls of the franklins, since they never seemed to do back then. My little York was the same, I added framing in at both ends to be able to fasten the bed and seats to so put insulation in as well, I'll do the same with the Franklin. If any moisture gets in there, eg from condensation, it can drain straight down instead of coming in contact with the ply, there was a bit of a gap between the cladding and frame, not sure if the Franklin will be the same there yet.

I've used 2.7mm poly coated caravan ply from The Bunker on the Sunshine Coast, they have sheets for about $17 each. They also have 3.2mm full gloss white sheets for $40 each as well as a few other varieties.
