We are moving house in a few weeks so the race is on for me to have this little Franklin road ready! And pack up the house and shed, and still go to work! (Good news though, we've bought a house so final move for a long time!) There's no shed or carport (yet) at our new place so I have to weatherproof her as much as I can now.
So far I have 3 sides of the van painted, hoping to finish the final side today, that's the side that faces the weather so fingers crossed for a fine day. I've used Rust Guard SLS etch primer and Rust Guard Quick Dry Advanced Enamel Gloss White, rolled with 100mm foam rollers, the cool weather has been on my side, I don't think my finish would have been as good in warmer weather. I chose not to spray because when we sprayed the Millard, even with the windows etc taped up, paint still got inside, I couldn't risk that happening here as inside is already lined.
The badges are back on (the windows are still only temporarily fitted until I can fit the ply behind and router out the window openings)
Yesterday I managed to wire up most of the lights, I still have to fit the side marker lights to the unpainted side and then wire them all up inside but the little powerbank has been handy for making sure they're doing what they're supposed to be doing.
I added grommets (from Bunnings) to run the wiring through so no rubbing against sharp aluminium.
Solder joiners are my favourite, so easy to work with. (The orange clamp is holding cloth that's protecting heatshrink from shrinking before I want it to.)
I've bought all the lights off ebay
All fitted and ready for wiring up inside -
Still on my to-do list -
- two more coats of paint on one side of van (other sides are done)
- finish building door and frame,
- finish fitting the hatch,
- finish wiring up running lights,
- line inside around front and back windows so I can router opening before windows go in permanently,
- line window frames with white moulding,
- put windows in permanently,
- and the biggest job - put new j-rail on!
Hubby's jobs include finishing welding up the drawbar, attach coupling and brake cable and put the wheels on. As well as packing up the shed and house and going to work!
On the upside, instead of travelling 84km round trip each day to work, we'll be travelling 5km so heaps more time to spend on my caravans
