Our Riviera's chassis number is 89276G so I presume it was manufactured in September 1978. The Tare weight is listed as 850 and GVM as 1200. Does anyone know if these figures are correct?

Is the chassis number correct? They usually have 6 numbers. From 'The History Of Olympics" article it says the first two numbers are the year of manufacture, the next number is the month and the last three numbers is the number of the caravan build. This document is on this site or Vintage Caravan site. My 1968 Riviera weighed 900kg completely empty, no gas bottle, spare tyre or water. My 1986 weighed the same at 900kg. No spare or water and as it is a full electric caravan no gas. These have electric brakes which I found is about 20kgs(at least) heavier than the over ride brakes normally fitted to the Riviera. 1200kg is OK for the GVM. That would give an ATM at least 1300kg(GVM plus towball weight).

I think you worked out the year and month correctly. I forgot about the extra number from 1980 as I was going by my '86 model which has 6 numbers. Also there is facebook page, Olympic Vintage Caravans which can be helpful for most things Olympic if you are interested. www.facebook.com/groups/1962895100597282/Warren
