Hi all, Hoping someone can help me with the history of our recent acquisition 😀 Chassis number is C58343. Rego label says it's a "1900 Viscount Caravan 4" It appears that the inside has been remodeled. Fridge has been moved from driver side and was only setup to run on 240. Ive attached some pics. I'm interested in finding out what year it is. Also I'd like to restore the logos it's been repainted outside all white, covering all logos. I'm wanting to restore the logos and remove the added on explorer lettering that's been placed there. Would anyone have a pic of the 675 logo as per my attached pic? Hopefully someone has some info on it. Hi Johann, Your Explorer is 1976,this was the “baby” 6berth version! They also came in 7 and 8 berth, which were of course longer. The only difference I can see is as you say,the fridge has swapped sides, the rest looks standard to me,except it has updated woodwork. I’m pretty sure they didn’t come with the Explorer logo, that was used on the same era Explorere pop tops, just a Viscount logo front and rear. Hope this helps Cheers hughdeany

G'day Johann and hughdeany,
Assuming the chassis number of C58343 followed the same numbering pattern of other Viscounts at this time, then C58343 decodes as follows:
C = Camper trailer the first number of 5 = 1975 the remaining numbers of 8343 = the 8,343rd chassis built by Viscount in 1975.
Given that the caravan industry was starting to collapse by 1975, it wouldn't surprise me to find out that the 8,343rd chassis was built pretty close to the end of 1975, which would tally up with hughdeany's opinion that it's a 1976 camper.
Johann, note that the 8343rd chassis consists of ALL Viscount vans built that year, not just campers. The chassis number one before yours and one after yours might have been full size vans, for example.
cheers, Al.

Hey guys. Thanks so much for the replies and the info. Very much appreciated. I've only had a chance to take it out once at Easter and it's now been returned to the garage for more repairs Just finished fixing a lift arm. Johann

Would either of you know whether there was color scheme to them? It's been painted over white. I couldn't see a viscount logo on the rear, there's one on the front.(pic) On the back is another logo for Fords Camperland Huntingdale.(been painted over). Do you think that logo that's been covered isn't legit?

Hi Johann, The body colours were tan, blue and mustard, all with white rooves. The Viscount name was across the stainless steel rear bumper,Explorer wasn’t on it and maybe a small Viscount sticker on the front. Cheers hughdeany

Cool that makes sense then. The door and access hatch are mustard. In the pic where that logo is, above, its showing the mustard color come through where the paint is flaking off. I thought it may have been gold. And yep Viscount is on the rear bumper.
