Hey all,
Just started a Facebook page called That Funky Little Van. Not in competition and certainly not to step on toes, just a bit of fun and somewhere to share photos, stories etc. If anyone wants to take a look or join in that's cool, if not that's cool too. I'll certainly keep checking in here when I can. Look forward to catching up and seeing some pics of what you have.

Is anyone here still running this page? (as the constant changes to paid content etc i have not seen updates on my feed) Is so, some handy advice to create *events, to keep the interest, links back to events here may help those who do not log back in as often risking that 1 year cull from not logging in! www.dummies.com/social-media/facebook/how-to-create-a-facebook-group-event/ * In this day and age an event may be a "virtual happy hour" Held here (requires login)... NOT on facebook, as our classic scene is spread so far apart and does not seem to physically meet up, since the ill fated Cotton Tree SE Queensland event, as a stand alone thing.

Gidday atz.. Have no control over the facebook page.
The Vintage Nationals are running well. 116 vans (+my modern box). Classics were invited. The weather is perfect.
I put it out there for suggestions to celebrate our 10th anniversary. That went well.
Feel free to organise a get together.

Very jellous of all those lucky folks at the Nationals, a bit peeved i will never get to one sadly. Former member Locky set up the FB, who did he hand it over to? I have my own spin off FB page, that i will of course post event links on. It is however not affiliated with the ditzy Classic route, in that age is a moving target, those white boxes that were new when the Classic spun off from VV forums started, that now look as dated as a 1990s "beginning of folded panel aero" & whack it together cheaper, beasties. Happy to help whoever has the page & in light of all the dramas and paranoia of Facebook might just get some back here as regulars, being active.

'woowoo' setup the page Locky took care of it. As hard as he tried he could not generate any interest in it. It is back in the hands of 'woowoo'

Over to you woowoo then... Stats of page: 581 people like this 588 people follow this Interest creates interest, quality of such is the variable, the troll threads about tow weights, folks not waving etc create up to 100 posts in an hour on some FB groups = active but for what purpose. Lurking is the main form of activity and contribution here, so one can hardly say lurkers on the FB page are not showing interest.

I have only been around since mid 2014, so not seen his content so far. I only really look at classic linked threads on VV so again have missed out. Just surprised that with around three to five new classic ownership projects a month popping up on various facebook groups, those who wish to be sympathetic to the spirit of their van should be guided so. Important to rope in the next gen who will fly the classic flag at nationals time. Edited to make sence

ahh i thought it was 3 - 5 ( new ownership of classic caravans) i did not hit the - hard enough. I am not talking about this sites FB group page, just observations from others i follow.

I'm still not with you. Where do you get 3 - 5 from? Are you talking about new owners/members of classic vans joining fb groups? I regularly (almost daily?) post on the York, Millard, and Viscount, fb pages, and occasionally on the Franklin, Chesney, Vintage, & Wreckers, and some other fb pages and I would suggest that collectively the classic owners/members on those fb sites are growing at the rate of 3 - 5 per day not per month. But the issue is that so many of these new fb owners/members don't know or don't care that this forum regards their 70's caravans as "classics".
Edited for clarity

I see where you are comming from, confused by. Forum: There has always been a mostly "hit & run" attitude here. This can be a good thing with clean project threads but has failed the scene growing with no united community. Long term most annex to the VV scene as welcome sideshow.
Mustang is doing great work trying to entice travel show & tell threads and more.
The mindset & tone over the almost 10 years here, is a recipie, so many lurkers do not really feel confident to post. I will never forget some if the answers, to a simple question here and on the VV site, most of the agro ones have moved on or were banned, stormed off in a huff. No one likes trolls in friendly tech related discussion.
Your York is counted as 1 once. I am not saying posts, unaltered my original rant says "new to them purchase".
Many are already gutted or badly damaged so will instantly be turned into white blood mobile wife friendly interiors. That trend is starting to change with grey shades creeping ahead of the gloss white.
When someone posts with a good original interior but wants cheap modern travel van, then encourage them to sell salvageable project & take on something more suited to them, without losing history as stocks of classics slowly become scarce.

Woowoo does not post very often but does pop in for a look see on both the Vintage and Classic forums.
The 'Vintage Caravans' page and the 'Classic Caravans' page still live and are updated. Woowoo looks after them. Both Woowoo and her partner are very active in the Vintage caravan scene
4th September 2017 the forum celebrated its 10th birthday. There was no interest from anyone in doing anything. The Vintage Vanners run lots of events and the Classics are always welcome to join in.
I see lots of Classics in my travels sometimes I get to speak with the owners. Often the owners are not interested in forums or facebook pages.

Agreed Bob, most are happy to join in on the vintage scene or are younger and with family travelling. I guess 24th August 2016 then another post 17th august 2017 is active? Still under 600 members, admin doing a few posts & Mustang 1 back in 2016.

Well my wife and I have taken our 76 Viscount (Purple Reign) to 3 fantastic meetings so far this year (Bridgewater, Tooradin, and Wangaratta) but sadly we didn't see many other classics attending. Maybe this elusive woowoo character was at some of those functions and maybe we met up but I'm none the wiser. I can see from the respective facebook pages that the restoration/makeover of (what we call) classics is by far outnumbering vintage. I would suggest that on the Viscount & Millard/York & Chesney fb pages the bulk of regular discussion is related to 70's - early 80's vans. But many/most of those posters don't refer to their vans as classics and probably don't care. There seems to be a common consensus on fb that anything over about 30 years old is 'vintage'. But every page has their own individual interpretation. For instance, the preamble on the Classic Caravans of Oz fb page states "A Facebook place for those interested in Classic Caravans, Those caravans that are older than 30 years old. NOTE Vintage caravans are considered to be pre 1980 in some parts & pre 1969 via others choice" For us, we just enjoy "old" caravans. In the last 15 years we have owned a 90's, 3 x 60's, an 80's, and now 2 x 70's caravans. Some people may call them vintage, or classic, or whatever, we just call them "ours". As for reno/makeover styles & tastes we like to keep things period correct but respect others have the right to do whatever they want with their vans.

I like to hear about people using their caravans. They were built for a purpose.
I think I counted 4 classics at Wang one was parked away from the group near the cabins. It left early and I didnt get a picture of it.
Mark defined the time periods for the Vintage Van forum when he established it over 13 years ago. Others have adopted them. It really depends on what your interests are as to how you define the older caravans. My father thinks if its out of warranty its old and time to replace it.
There are lots and lots of caravan related pages and groups on facebook. It is so easy to post. I find it boring when people post the same "pictures and story" on diferent group/pages. I wonder where these facebook groups/pages will be in 10 - 15 years time? The old Bulletin Boards did not last 5 years
Keep on caravanning.

Great obsevations Bob & captivenut. The other issue nowdays on FB is how it is viewed and what device. Many androids do not see sub threads = many many duplicate rubbish posts, as informed replies are hidden. Who ever runs the forum page just needs to post up the occasional project or whatever and link it back here, not leave it stagnant and annual VV Nationals advertisment. Popular things may be a teaser how do i date my caravan & link to relevant threads here? (This site is a BB with premium options, like many survivors) I am impressed that even with the new mergers of yahoo - AOL & others, my yahoo groups still remain with full content, most a time warp of 1998 - 2003. Those blinky Geocities sites have been the main casualty of the last few decades and changing tastes/ platforms.

We got into our van because of our cars, we have a Classic 57 Chev (which was at Wang) and a 38 Ford Coupe which has been hot rodded. We are now keen on the Van movement and had a great time at Wangaratta. Since we got the Travelhome registered, the Jayco has been relegated to the back of the shed.
