Hi, Wondering if anyone can help with the process of registration of our van. We bought a Chesney Pacemaker aeroframe dual axel earlier this year off gumtree. It was and still is unregistered, no rego papers. We have a receipt from the seller, the Van has NSW number plates and also on the draw bar near the hitch it has embossed DC6232 (no results from online searches) We have completely renovated the van internally, new walls and ceiling, insulation , kitchen , beding etc.. but have not changed the gas outlets and just upgraded to new appliances. We are not sure of the year model but assume it is a early 1970's (google searches) We are now ready to get it registered however our local mechanic has told us it is going to be a long process as we dont have papers and we need to have an inspector go over it and provide us with a VIN No.
Any info anyone can provide on the rego process would be greatly appreciated as I am struggling to find info on this.

What state do you live in? Last year I registered a 1968 caravan in QLD that I bought in NSW. I used the chassis number where it asked for the VIN number. I had it weighted for tare weight and obtained a weighbridge certificate, I got a RWC from a mobile roadworthy mechanic. As there was no gas connected no gas certificate was required. I took the caravan to the transport department with all the certificates, paperwork and proof of ownership. The caravan was measured by the transport dept office worker, paid my money and received the number plates. Straight forward. Other states might have different processes than Qld.

Hi Warren, Thanks for your info, hoping the process of getting it registered is the same as yours however we live in NSW so most likely it will be a different one.

Pity you aren't in Vic, it's very simple, but I'm sure someone from NSW will chime in at some point and let you know.

NSW is not that hard for what used to be called the blue slip. If you are near Sydney i can point you towards a top business to get it done. * You need to get onto Service NSW to organise a permit to tow to a weighbridge and also to the inspector. ( new process similar to what QLD has done for years) The inspector will sort out a VIN plate, that gets attatched to the chassis. If you know the previous registration plate number it helps speed up the process, even though no record of it will be around lol!! S you have the old ones you need to surrender them and pay for new plates. The first thing is i can not see any white reflectors on the front, in your display pic. If you have gas then you need to get a compliance certificate from a licensed gas plumber. Looking at the RMS site they have updated it and made it harder to find caravan specific details, give feedback if you speak with a human as in 2014 it was not too bad, now it is very non specific!! www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/registration/index.html * Or you can risk a direct route to weighbridge & inspector, you should make a time appointment, so if pulled over by Police, they can verify you are doing the right thing, not driving free & unpaid. See www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/registration/unregistered.html

Thank you for your helpful info. We are about 45kms from sydney ( west of sydney). We have since added the white reflectors and new tail lights since the photo. The Van still has the original gas fittings and has the gas plate on it, would we need this to have a new compliance certificate as We only upgraded the appliance. It does has a gas outlet for the fridge but we have decided to go with a 12v one. I have a weigh station 1km from my home where I can take it to get weighed which Im assuming is a lot less then its original weight as we removed a lot inside and the upgrades weigh a lot less. Regarding obtaining a new vin, we were told the are only 2 inspectors in NSW that can provide this and its a lengthy process. Not sure if this is correct as it was our 1st enquiry into the rego process.
Thank you for your reply, I will be going into the RMS this week to speak to someone.

Good luck Alisha Ace Automotive Mechanical in West Sydney did mine, he supplied the original details to the RMS inspector bosses & they issued the VIN number that he attatched. My Arrow would be hard pressed to make lighter, the light strong Aussie timber is a far cry from what match wood or bulky stronger stuff is generally available. Anything under about 800KG should be good for yours. Under 750KG and you get into the magic no brakes required zone!

I did mine I live in western Sydney what I needed was a receipt with price, make model, year, chassis number that is on draw-bar, a weigh bridge ticket and of cause a road worthy van. then you should sale though with out a hitch. The gas will have to be checked and a new compliance plate issued I can't remember off hand if it is every 8 or 10 years I hope this is of help for you your mechanic will also have to to be able to do blue slips.

Thanks, I have everything you mentioned although Im not quite sure of the year make. I have done some searching online and figure its an early 1970's, possibly 1971. Its a Chesney Aeroframe Pacemaker (stickers are still on the van) I know Chesney made a pacemaker 2 which I think was late 70's. Thanks for your info, it does seem easier after receiving some feedback on here than we were told by our mechanic. 😁.
