Whoever you are training under will be able to tell you the rules (or if you're at TAFE - your instructor). If you do not understand the details in this Guide - Traditional Electrical Guide, get an a qualified electrician to work with you and plan the job properly. Nice as it might be to do the work yourself - the risks are probably greater than your normal building wiring - you really need to know how to get the RCD to work and protect you (may not be obvious - but a van doesn't have an earth / neutral bond in the sub board or 'ground' stake you would see in a building). One other simple thing you won't see in domestic wiring, all the powerpoints must be double pole switches - no cheating and getting the power points left over from a domestic job. Although you are an apprentice electrician, legally, you still can not do any of this work unsupervisored so get help from someone at work.
