Hi all This is me and my husband first attempt to rebuild an old 1970 20 foot Chesney I don't know to much about them but I found information on your web page.. We brought this old girl in rubyvail QLD for $2000 the box aircon that was in it would have been $1000 so we picked it up cheap. The frame under the caravan is immaculate condition no rust at all, the history on the caravan was the owners before them lived out at mount isa and that the van has been out west most of its life. We got the caravan back to Innisfail QLD for a project we wanted to pull it all apart and start fresh so we did..... We ended up stripping it bear and lifting the howl frame off the floor and replacing the floor and rebuild the lot. We are only half way done but slowly getting there we are very proud of what we have done but now comes the had bits. There is gas reals and water plumbing can were can we run our wires throughout the van what kind of aircon can we use? I have been googling made and coming up with different answers.. If I can put some photos up of our progress... I will happy for any advice on what we are doing From Nicky

Welcome. And you're not wrong about stripping it back and rebuild. Looks forward to more progress news.

your van looks really nice a hell of a lot of work has gone into it you should be proud of your achievement. With the electricity best to get an electrician to run them or inspect them before they are covered as in the end he has to sign it off. I ran conduit before I put up ceiling and walls and the sparky can run his wires though that let me get on with the walls and ceiling and no chance of me putting a drill or screw into the wires.Gas as I have found out recently limits a lot no battery any closer than 1.5m of gas bottles also goes for split system outside box but a safe way around this is to put gas bottle in a sealed box best to read www.caravansplus.com.au/catalog/help-gas-installation.php .Plumbing work out what you need you can use copper or plastic electric hot-water can go inside I don't think there is a gas hot water service you can use inside but I could be wrong I am going to use a portable lpg hot water service that will be connected at front of draw-bar at least 1.5m from gas bottles will be disconnected and stored in van when not in use. Do not mount these to side of van as back gets extremely hot and has a high probability of burning your van down. Have fun looking forward to seeing finished van
