My wife and I have just bought a mid 70s "Newlands" caravan. 12'X7' approx. single axle. Tare weight 700kg.
Would like some advice re tow car. Was thinking of an early Toyota Dyna twin cab ute (diesel)
The idea being, put a cage on the rear tub section covered in canvas. That way we could put gas bottles, fridge, generator etc totally isolated from the passenger compartment. This would also keep weight from the van.
Our intentions, at this stage are to "getaway" once per year. Not far from home, probably locations within a 1000 klm radius.
Any advice/feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Mick.

Getaway,
That sounds like a great idea..............and quite practical.
Good luck on the fit out.

Thanks for the response Ditzy.
Had a change of heart over the weekend and decided on something a little more comfortable! Plus we decided on something newer than a Dyna. The reason being that should we ever break down, it is a comfort to be covered by R.A.C.V "total care". (they will not cover vehicles older than 40 years old).
So I bit the bullet and bought a 2000 Ford Courier twin cab ute. 2.5 litre turbo diesel. 5 speed manual. With a canopy. Should suit us down to the ground.
Needless to say, we have named our tow car "Jim" for obvious reasons.
