G'day 2caps, and welcome to the forum! I'm not sure what that serial number you've given relates to, but the chassis number you've posted is a number issued by the registration authorities when the van's original chassis number is not available, for whatever reason (eg. can't be found, etc). In general, Capricorn vans had the chassis number stamped on the plate that the coupling is bolted to, at the front of the drawbar. That stamped number may well be hidden under layers and layers of paint, or if the drawbar has been replaced at some point in time, the stamped number may not have been put back on the van. You are looking for a 4-digit number for Capricorn vans from the 1970s - the one I had a few years ago had the chassis number of 2417, and it was approximately a 1975 model. You can have a read of the threads relating to Capricorn vans by clicking on this link and seeing if any of those vans are similar to the one you have. cheers, Al.

Yes, definitely from around the middle of the 1970s - somewhere between 1975 and 1977, at a guess. Is that an oval RVMAA badge just above the brown stripes rear of the door, or is that the bracket for the door latch? The Capricorn logo changed a few times over the years, and I seem to remember the last design before the factory closed down was a blue background. Whoever drew the map design always missed out on including Tasmania. One of our members had his stickers reproduced, and got them to include the Tassie bit! cheers, Al.

Hi Al and 2 caps, That is a Capricorn, but not a Birdie. The Birdie had front and rear top rolls. This was the cheap and cheerful van Remo bought out to capture more market, can't remember what the model name is though! They came in 11,13 and 15ft,7 or 8 ft wide, didn't have as many cupboards or Windows as standard Capricorns. Nice little van, Cheers hughdeani

Hi 2 caps, From memory I think your van came out in 1979,the model name has something to do with sunshine and palm trees! I will remeber what it is when I stop thinking about it! Cheers hughdeani
