G'day Mr Moderators and Mr Administrator,
I went searching for some info just now in the General Board section, and I notice that there are currently 27 pages of threads in that Board, but the earliest post is dated Feb 27, 2013. I know there is a maximum storage limit to the number of pages/threads in any one Board, and once that max is reached, any new thread pushes the earliest thread off the edge into a deep black hole. We have apparently lost all threads in the General Board that were created since the forum started in 2007 and up to the end of 2012. It may well have happened in other Boards of this forum, but I haven't checked them yet.
We had a similar problem on the Vintage forum a few years ago, and to overcome the problem the General Board was amended to cap the current end of the threads, and a new General Board was created to allow new threads from this date - eg. General Board 2013 - June 2016; and the new General Board June 2016 -
Is this something we need to look into for the continuation of maintaining information on the forum, or are we happy to let old threads drop off the edge and disappear into oblivion?
Certainly a lot of old threads are no longer useful - members have dropped out and photos have disappeared; threads that don't have any useful info in them that's worth retaining; etc., but it's a big job to go back through all the posts and weed out (delete) all the ones that now have no value.
Is there an easy way out to fix the problem so we don't lose too much of the valuable info we've accumulated so far?
cheers, Al.

I was not aware this was a problem, thanks for bring it to our attention. I always wondered about the 2nd "General Board" on the VV Forum. That is a lot of info we have lost.

An important thing to look at with useful archive boards is hard drive back up as well, whilst you lose those beloved photobucket pics, as if re hosted the permissions for page url are void, however with $120 two terrabyte hard drives a complete copy of the board with downloaded pics would most likely be able to be stored 2- 3 times over. A popular media discussion forum recently re located the active board and click revenue pays for the old complete but now topic and thread locked 2000 to 2015 , with hosted images, for prosperity. Merging new topics into suitable existing threads, where applicable, can help depending on host agreement specs.

Thinking about the hard appreciated posting, that many have done here, and the issue with free hosting & as per the sticker URL debate i clicked to see what this current format offers. Mostly i was wondering about a script fix for the image uploader, so avatar hosting is as per current, even Don on VV does not seem to know on site space for avatar is availble, the uploader ensures silly sized and uncompressed images do not hog limited allocation. Ideal would be that the uploader shows offsite help thread or preferred host hotlink (doubtful as proboards want to sell you their host space). What did concern me was while looking to increase space i read this... Soo in light of that statement what has caused threads to be culled? Long term if Mark T & more likely friendly contributors wanted to raise required funds to pay the approx $20 per annum, then this current site can be re directed to whatever URL is purchased for this Classic Caravan forum. www.proboards.com/admin-guide/upgrades/custom-domains ( A heads up for search function, when the next batch of stickers are investigated)
