Hi all, just started to renovate a 1975? Arrow. Chassis number is w818. It's got a few leaks and we are sprucing up the interior to freshen it up. Hope you all don't mind if I have afew questions along the way as we are newbies. Will put up some pics if able. Cheers.

Welcome to the forum. Pics are great - use a phot hosting site link Photobucket then copy and paste the links and your pics will appear. There seems to be a run of Arrows getting renovated at the moment here - 6 on the front page alone at the moment - including mine There must be something to this - are the Viscount and Millard owners getting worried? Yes, a 1975 Arrow going by your chassis number - mine is also a '75. leaks can be frustrating to trace and fix, but start with resealing the window frames - the old mastic goes hard. Other areas I've found that leak are the roof panels where they join each other, and the J moulds along the roof on both sides where they seal to the walls. Also around the roof hatch on mine was like a waterfall when I first got it. All part of the fun of owning a classic. Good luck with the restoration - they are a ripper van and I love mine to bits and use it every chance I get.

Thanks for the advice. Have already tackled the hatch by removing all of the old stuff and putting on sikaflex. Bugger of a job. Next are the windows and also Need fly screens for 3 of them. Was looking at painting the roof also with something like thermoshield. Need a new outside light near door was thinking of changing to 12v. Using an iPad so usually uploading photos is easy but kept getting an error mess stating forum has used up all available storage or something to that effect. Will keep trying. Cheers Gav.

Hi. I agree with Snoops. Only way it seems to seal up a Franklin is to do it properly straight up. J Moulds and all seams, even the seams half way down that run along the length of the van can leak (mine did). I'm at the pointy end now. All painted up, and will paint drawer bar this weekend. Roll Out Awning and hook up 12v and should be almost there. Plenty of help/advice to be had on this site. Just ask away, and plenty of people will jump in to help. PS - don't forget, plenty of photos

This forum has very limited space to upload photos to, so using a photo hosting site is really the only way to go. I use Photobucket but Imageshack, etc work just as well.

Hey Snoops, did you cop that storm over your way ? We apparently got 71mm and hail here in Lara/Avalon !!!!. I was in Ballarat so I missed it all. My Franklin was out with no tarp on the roof at all. I thought for sure it would've been full of water.....Not a drop inside anywhere to be found !!!!!

Nah mate - not a drop here! I saw it on the news - if your van can survive that, it will survive anything!

Shocked the hell out of me.....We were up near Ballarat so we completely missed it. My dad who is in Lara too phoned me to tell me about the storm etc... I was totally shocked that it didn't leak, and.....all the windows were open about 10cm,or so each........lol

Getting there, bit too much wood grain for us so just painted the walls a lighter colour to freshen it up and make it feel bigger. Also took out the cupboard in bed area to make a bigger bed frame for more room.

Looks great ! I thought of removing the end drawer set, but my wife and I are fairly short so the standard bed size (although, cosy) will be fine for us. They are a great layout. Can't wait to use ours

My bed has already been enlarged but it is a crap job and I will be redoing it eventually. I have also started painting the panelling in mine - it has made a huge difference to how the interior looks.

In our Franklin we removed the top bunks and finished with 2 single beds 1880 long by 800 wide each. There is not possible to make them longer so I cannot stretch my legs

The wife has had a great time changing curtains, recovering cushions and chose the paint colour with just ahint of green. I'm sure more scatter cushions will follow.

The bed is a good size double now with lots of leg room. Has bunks up the front that converts to a sitting area, so won't change layout of that just in case of visitors.

That's a great setup. Those bunk couches are the most comfortable seating you'll find in a caravan. Because the back is angled the right way. It's a shame they dont' make 'vans like that where you just lift the couch back up for full sized bunks seeya, Shane L.

Yeh it's more comfortable than the actual sitting area it has with the table.

First time you're camping 'scatter' the scatter cushions outside in the dirt. SWMBO won't want them back in the van after that. My better half mentioned scatter cushions, but the conversation quickly ended with the death stare I gave her... anyway, we take our Pugs camping - they are little furry 4 legged scatter cushions.

Hmm thanks snoops, but if I do that then I fear the caravan will be my permanent home.

I like the short side table next to the bunks, makes it nice and tidy when it's done as a seat. In saying that I like keeping my fishing rod standing up in the wardrobe that my franklin has there! That makes 3 different ways of doing that front corner so far, short cupboard, wardrobe, and no cupboard (the narrow arrow) If you have the space to work on your van re-sealing the whole thing is not an insurmountable task. Just don't do like me and assume you can do it in a 3 day weekend, it took me 3 months! If you don't already have something similar, go to bunnings and get one of these ladders and make an MDF or plywood piece up, with a pair of timbers on the bottom to stop it sliding. Mine was even handier than the hoist I used for working under the van. They come on sale for around $80ish but other hardware stores have similar things. www.bunnings.com.au/syneco-3-7m-120kg-aluminium-multifold-ladder_p0860910Best of luck, don't be afraid to ask questions :-)
